A very clean, social, and safe hostel. The dorms had great AC and were very comfortable to sleep in. They use passcodes, so you don't have to carry around a physical key. Staff are super friendly and helpful. A bit of a walk from from busy areas like the boardwalk and night market. The bar is super fun and active, but people can be loud pretty late. As long as you have earplugs, it is super manageable!

Possibly the worst hostel I've stayed in while I've been in Auz. Cramped smelly dorms, got bitten loads, cold showers, rammed fridge, not enough washing machines and tiny pool. You need to get plates and cutlery from reception. Annoying gates everywhere. Our corridor had 2 shower/toilet rooms for about 30 beds. Air con is right above two of the bunk beds, so whoever is sleeping there is freezing. I was only there 2 nights but didn't seem to have good socials either. I think the only good thing was the breakfast and you get a welcome drink.

incredibly disappointing, starting with one of the worst greetings I've ever experienced. The staff's attitude was unhelpful and unprofessional right from the moment I arrived, showing little interest in welcoming guests or making them feel valued. I had flown in from Japan at 430am called up the night manger to let her know I was just going to stay in a private hotel for this morning to catch up on some much need sleep. After I've gotten my sleep I took a walk around Cairns to have a look and get familiar with my surroundings I wanted to check out my accommodation along my walk at the mad monkey central that I've booked for a 5 nights stay. Just wanted to ask a simple question about my accommodation and because I didn't have my passport on me they couldn't answer my questions I understand that so I walked back to my hotel to collect my passport upon my arrival at my private hotel I got a email saying cancellation with out reason called them straight away and was told my bed had been replaced very disappointing. The atmosphere lacked warmth and hospitality, with no effort made to create a welcoming or enjoyable environment for travelers.

Mad monkey central is definitely one of my top hostels I’ve stayed in since travelling Australia!! The staff were super friendly and even gave a tour of the place when arriving which I haven’t experienced before. The environment is so friendly and talkative especially with these cool events they have on every night! The facilities were amazing, numbers of showers and toilets so people aren’t waiting around, a huge kitchen with so many stoves and even electric ones so that dreaded hostel cooking wasn’t even a thing anymore! I can’t recommend them enough to anyone staying in Cairns, I would 100% go visit them!

I had a single room close to the centre that was clean and comfortable, and although close to the centre was very quiet, facilities were only a couple of doors away. There was a small pool and an eating and socialising area undercover with a bar and pool table. The kitchen was clean and well equipped with all the usual facilities. All the staff were friendly and the whole place had a happy and genial atmosphere. They organise some outings including a pub crawl that many took part in and I would certainly stay there again.

The place is a bit outdated, but, it’s clean & tidy. Central to everything & just a few steps away from Rusty’s market, Cairns Central Plaza. They have a bar that’s open at night, but, we hardly ever heard any loud music playing. It’s wonderful that they value their guests sleep activities & let us have a pleasant stay. Staffs are very accomodating & friendly to their guests, yet, they do their jobs & tasks seriously. Again, their “FREE” breakfast is always the highlight everyday…no one checks out/leave the place hungry. Highly recommended place to stay

Best Hostel in Cairns for sure! Great mix of a chill vibe during the day and something different going on every night. Big kitchen with everything you’d need. Right next to the Cairns Central mall so no long walks to the supermarket. Staff was super nice and helpful and the free pancakes every morning topped it all of!

I stayed at this hostel as a long term solo traveller and had the best stay. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, they came and addressed any questions or concerns I had! They even helped refer me to book my tours right at the hostel which was so convenient and offered me discounts!! There are plenty of events every night run which makes it super easy to meet people. Mad monkey has become my home away from home and I would recommend anyone to stay here as a long term guest.

Best experience I’ve ever had in a hostel! Made loads of new friends, all facilities were really clean and the staff could not be more friendly! Will definitely be staying here again! The free breakfast and fun activities every night were a big bonus!
