A great place to stop after arriving via Brittany Ferries at Ouistreham/Caen. We were made to feel most welcome by Catherine and her husband. The bedroom was very comfortable and it was quiet considering the Autoroute is only a minute away. Our dinner was excellent and the young man who waited on table was so charming. Breakfast was also excellent. Everyone at Le Faisan Doré was charming….really, really nice people. We will stay again on our next French sojourn. Highly recommend.

Cozy place to stay. Complete, neat and the food… the food is next level, it is just a trip through local France. If you want a nice, neat room and have the best food then you need to be in this hotel!!

Around 10 years ago we stayed here on arrival in France late at night from the ferry. We liked the look of the place and breakfast was good so we planned to visit again, we finally made it! This time we didn't have a lte arrival and as it is some distance from the town it made sense to book half board. From the outside it doesn't look anything special but inside its very nice and the room was good. It also has a car park which is always an advantage. When we went down for dinner we were quite surprised by the menu and impressed with what was on offer. The food was excellent and service was very efficient and friendly. Drinks were a but pricey but we have seen worse. After a good night's sleep we were treated to a great breakfast too. When it was time to leave we wondered if there might be surcharges on top of the half board price for the dinner but no the price was as advertised. We enjoyed our stay very much and don't plan to wait another 10 years before returning

Wonderful room and superb bathroom. Fabulous bed and superb linen. Restaurant average. On arrival the hotel, situated alone on a long, quiet, straight stretch of road looked like hotel from a Hitchcock film. The long-neglected neon lit sign on the front seemed incongruous with Dickensian wooden beams, distinctive having been painted green. We passed a faded menu and entered the reception. The door did not creak, but otherwise all appeared as it had done in an original Hitchcock film, the wooden desk littered with hand-written notes, the pigeon-holes for letters remained largely empty, and a musty smell of 'old'. A congenial man whose appearance matched the style of the hotel welcomed us in French. We booked in, and selected our choices for the following breakfast, ticking boxes on an A4. We were led up some stairs which must have once been ancient, but had recently been covered with extremely hard-wearing surfaces that would not look out-of-place in a high-street bank. No creaking. We entered a huge room. We had booked the most expensive room to avoid disappointment. The bed was also huge. The modernised bathroom was truly magnificent. We were so delighted. Later we were to discover that the bed was wonderfully comfortable and the bedlinen was superb. We had a cocktail in the garden before going into dine. The dining room had been decorated by someone with unusual tastes. The waiter smiled knowingly when I joked about the wallpaper. Large red roses, orange carnations, and pink peonies adorned the walls, enhanced by orange and red tentacles that were the wall-lights. As it was Monday, there was only one choice on the menu, a chicken and vegetable casserole which was delicious. The following morning we arrived 30 minutes early for our pre-ordered breakfast. Looking around the room, some tables showed signs of departed guests, and others were laid out complete with selected food. We recognised our selection on one of the tables. We had ordered ham and cheese, and these were already on our table, uncovered. As flies attempted to land, we wondered how long they had been out in the open, given that we had expected to arrive at least 30 minutes later. As we tucked in, the food was delicious. The ham was the best quality and the home-made marmalade was wonderful. Overall it had been a good experience. The perfect venue for a murder-mystery writer. As the work to improve the hotel continues, I hope some of the old-world atmosphere remains.

Even though I had to drive more than 20 km to the Haras le Pin, it was worth it: clean, modern interior, perfect bed and excusite breakfast. The rooms are not too big and an elevator would be an asset, but the hotel has an age and was renovated with heart and understanding for the architecture. Will always book it again!

The restaurant is excellent but the hotel part is not finished. There was a narrow, dim hallway to get to the room with wires coming out of the walls and the ceiling. The room was small and spartan.

I think we have just found the nicest people in France. An emergency stop very late at night. Made to feel extremely welcome. Lovely bed and room, great breakfast. No complaints. Would come back again to explore the lovely Normandy countryside, sites and WW2 history.
