The Old Inn

On holiday with family during Easter break April 2024. Had two lovely meals here on consecutive nights. Staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly despite being rushed off their feet on a busy Friday night. Food was great and family loved it.

After being refused lunch elsewhere because I'm coeliac (was pretty grumpy), I stopped in for Easter Monday lunch. Lovely place - dog friendly (always a winner) fabulous crispy gluten-free fish and chips, and great banter from the bar manager. Highly recommend.

As returning tourists to Gairloch, The Old Inn is always on our list for a meal and boy am I glad we went today at the start of our weeks stay, because we will probably return for another meal...maybe dinner later in the week. The service was great and the food.... well the food was amazing. The smoked salmon sandwich was just so delicious....I could have had another.... but I couldn't have fit it in. Hats off to the chef... the combination of flavours were spot on making what could have been an ordinary lunch outstanding. My husbands BLT was just as good as was my daughter's fish goujons. She summed up lunch perfectly as we left, 'My lunch was so yummy!' Thanks again. Compliments to the chef!

The room was spacious and clean, with a big comfy bed. En suite was clean and the hand lotion, tissues, hand soap and shower gel welcome additions. The dog bed was a lovely thought, but too small for our lurcher. Food in the restaurant plentiful and tasty, but it was not obvious that we needed to order at the bar, which led to a bit of a delay. Perhaps a note on the menu may help? Breakfast was again plentiful, with a 'help yourself' system.

Lovely location in great village, but hotel is very tired round edges and therefore significantly over-priced. We wanted to love it, but the overall experience was that the place is tired, the staff are ok but nothing more, and it is in desparate need of renovation and uplift with a management structure that has a passion for customer service. The food was not great for us, but this too was poorly handled. Maybe its us? but we'd just come from Harbour House in Ullapool where we had nothing but great things to say. We wouldn't book The Old Inn in Gairloch again I'm afraid.

Delicious monkfish scampi, comfortable beds, clean rooms…it looked deserted when we arrived (check-in is from 4, so I guess that’s when staff arrive), but it was great once we‘d checked in. The breakfast choice list is a bit odd as they don’t give an option of how many of each item a guest may have so you assume that the portions are large and there are fresh foods, like fruit, available. Not much was on offer and the sausage rolls were tiny.

Last night we had our final highlands meal. It was at The Old Inn, where we ate 5 nights in a row. Why? Because their chefs is an absolute wizard  Because their staff are utterly lovely  Because their bar is outstanding Because the owners are terrific people  Because the place is as old, dark and classic as it gets  And because the vibe (for lack of a better word) was really special in a deeply Scottish way.
