Short version: I asked a question and the owner cancelled my booking. Long version: I booked and fully paid for this accommodation. One month out from my stay, I received an email requesting approval for authorisation and/or deposit, otherwise my booking would be cancelled. I was unsure what was required so I asked for clarification. The owner appeared to take offence at this ("you do not answer the question you merely reply with another question") and immediately cancelled my booking. He claimed that I did not approve of the authorisation/deposit. At no point did I ever state that I did not approve. In fact, all I had done at that point was ask for clarification. I attempted to rectify any possible misunderstandings. However, it became clear that he simply found it unacceptable that I had asked a question so decided to cancel my booking. It was honestly quite baffling. I would suggest that you consider the risk of a sudden cancellation if you book this accommodation.

The views from this guest house are spectacular. Our host, Ian, was attentive, informative, and helpful in every way. The room was very comfortable and well-furnished. There was some confusion in finding the guest house--I forgot to write down the phone number to contact our host--but staff at the nearby hotel helped us find our host. The guest house is located 3 km from Geiranger up a very steep hillside, so with our heavy luggage, it was necessary to have transportation, since we didn't have a car. Some of the statements on the ********** website about this property are misleading. There is no spa, and there is no restaurant. The restaurant is located in the nearby hotel, and our host has an arrangement with this hotel to serve breakfasts there. The guest house has a well-equipped kitchen, and guests are encouraged to prepare their own meals. There is no microwave oven, so preparing meals required more effort than we were inclined to do. Again, I want to emphasize that the charm of the guest house, the location and views, and Ian, the very accommodating host, made this a truly special place to stay.

Super 2 night stay. Great location above the town with a very attentive host who loaned us a map, which helped with a very nice walk to a nearby waterfall. There’s also a path almost straight down from the accommodation into the town, that avoids the twisty road. The room was lovely and with relaxing chairs to make it a very comfortable stay if we just wanted to chill. The residents’ kitchen is also a very good provision; we self catered both nights quite unexpectedly on the basis of it. Breakfast is taken at the next door hotel and is very good. All in all a super experience.

The place is one of the best places we've had in Norway. Very nice room with a super comfortable bed. Everything was very clean, and the bathroom was also very comfortable. The shared kitchen is well executed - every room has its own space, tools, cutlery, corner of the fridge and so on. This makes using the kitchen still feel pretty private. Also the view from the sitting area is amazing! The host, is proactively helpful. He is a great source for information and tips about the area. Good spacious space for parking.

Exceptionally clean and well equipped, fabulous unsurpassed views of Geiranger fjord and town from large kitchen windows. Host was very communicative regarding road conditions in and around the area including up to date closures of impassable roads. Personal experience, beats large impersonal hotel any day!

It s fascinating to see how the owner responds to the reviews here on tripadvisor. It testifies to very poor behavior and poor self-awareness. Which serious hosts respond to every single review ? No one… I would recommend to read several reviews befordre you stay here (we didnt, and we propably should have) and you will see that the owner suddenly throws out his guests, if he experiences something he thinks is not ok. When did asking for a room with a view become a crime? The owner apprently gets offended by REALLY small things. I would not stay in a place where the owner is SO unpredictable and obviously does not understand social codes and normal behavour from his guests. Bad service. We were thrown out for no reason the day before my birthday, and suddenly had nowhere to stay due to high season. This is a place I would not recommend to anyone unless you want your holiday to be ruined by a really bad host. Dont even answer this review, it makes you look really bad…

Finally the 24th of July 2021 we arrived to Geiranger for the first time, but the happiness was short lived. After a long vacation we needed to do some quick laundry in the sink at our private bathroom, and hang it out on the guesthouse drying rack. We used the drying rack because the host the day before told me to hang our tent for drying there. After the clothes had been hanging there some hours, he told us "do you know we have laundryroom in the basement?" "I said, "No i did not know". Further on he told about a nice trip to take for our morning hike, and we thought everything was just fine. After our hike he interrupted our breakfast and said "He gave us a friendly hint about the laundry outside". He was very aggressive and not polite at all to us,and out of nowhere he told us "you only hear what you want to hear". A very disrespectful way to speak to their guests. He also gave us the option to find another place to stay for the next night. We told him that we wanted to think about it and went out for another hike. After this hike where we had talked it over, we decided to stay the last night, because we had a restaurant booking the same evening. When we got back he came knocked at our room and told us "did you not hear what I said? your booking in cancelled". We were shocked! and asked "why?" He told us it was one and only because we were using the laundry rack outside in the garden, and "this was not a 1 star camping". We have traveled a lot worldwide but never experienced such a bad host as Ian at Lunheim in our home country. We recommend all people to find something else. A 1 star camping is such a better place! Stay away!
