Perhaps my expectations were too high, but Nanxun Ancient Town itself is quite unremarkable. This B&B might be acceptable if it cost around 300 RMB, but at over 500 RMB, it frankly feels like terrible value for money. First off, the guesthouse is located on the north side of the ancient town. While the town isn't huge, walking to the livelier southern part and back easily takes over an hour. The duvet felt damp, and the soundproofing was abysmal. What's more, all the indicator lights on the switches in the room, including the TV switch, remained lit. This is extremely inconvenient for light-sensitive sleepers. When I couldn't sleep in the middle of the night and wanted to ask the front desk for some blackout stickers, there was no one there. Mosquitoes were plentiful and quite aggressive. I suppose I could overlook these issues as systemic to Nanxun or perhaps unchangeable aspects of a riverside inn. However, the absolute worst part was the air conditioning in the room – it roared like a tractor engine. I had envisioned a peaceful sleep by the water, but instead, it was a sleepless night! Breakfast was provided at a place called Longfeng Noodle Restaurant. While the environment there was rather unpleasant, the food itself was surprisingly decent.

Facilities: The facilities are comprehensive and well-equipped. Environment: The ambiance is great, very tranquil and zen-like. Cleanliness: Also spotlessly clean. Service: The front desk staff were all wonderful and very welcoming.

The courtyard boasts a unique design, the rooms are spotlessly clean, and the facilities are comprehensive. We booked a riverside room, and opening the window revealed a stunning view. It was a truly comfortable experience! The owner was incredibly friendly, and the location was easy to find. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Overall, a wonderful stay. The guesthouse is conveniently located near Baijianlou, close to both Zhang Jingjiang Pier and another pier. It was also very quiet at night. The front desk attendant was incredibly thoughtful and provided excellent recommendations for local dining and attractions. The restaurants she suggested were all delicious. As we stayed for two nights, they even bought us breakfast (steamed buns, soy milk, etc.) on our second day. Eating it by the river was very pleasant and relaxing.
