Batad is a valley. You can stay either at the centre (360° view) or on the cliff (panoramic view). Batad Transient House is on the cliff with stunning view of the terraces and the mountain backdrop. Be reminded that a certain level of physical fitness is required to reach guesthouse in Batad as the path consists of a lot of stairs.
The check in was smooth. Due to limited cell reception and wifi, I recommend you make the booking available offline. The owner Irene was kind enough to upgrade me to a double room. Strange that there were little to no mosquitoes at this place. The facilities were basic. The family also provides transport and tour services. You can consult with them for your trip planning.
I had fantastic lunch and dinner at the house. Prices were very reasonable. If you are into family or warm vibes, this is the place.

Since the hotel is located in a village directly on the rice terraces, it is extremely difficult to get to it, and it also turns out to be an expensive round trip transfer, given that the bus from Manila arrives in Banaue. The hotel owners are very nice people and try to do everything for the convenience of their guests. But cleanliness is a C grade. I left earlier, despite the fact that more days had been paid for.

Batad Rice Terraces is a must see, but have to be physically fit for it is very steep, high, narrow and very very long walk. But once you overcome the almost 1 hour walk with rest, it is worth to see the place. Definitely, get a guide and a stick to go with you. The owner of the place gave an excellent service.

Ignore the one star rating. Booked but didn’t turn up as we arrived about 5pm. The accommodation is 45mins trike ride from central Banaue where the coaches drop off passengers. After the trike ride, it’s a half an hour plus hike across unlit rough terrain. So, unless you have your own transport, is fit, arrives very early with minimal luggage. I would advise travellers stay in central Banaue. Trike ride cost 800 peso each way. We ended up forfeiting our booking and stay in central Banaue. We saw the accommodation from a distance when we went to visit the rice terrace in Batad. As it is raining season, the terrain is not for walking in the dark. In fact it’s dangerous.

We dined here while staying at Ramons. They are owned by the same family. Meals are prepared from scratch and take quite a while (approx 1 hour) but taste great. Irene serves very large portions and even though we're big eaters, we still recommend you consider sharing a meal.

Irene did a great job accommodating our needs and showing us hospitality. I liked Transient house because it seems the best balance between all criteria - value, service... but also elevation: it is located high enuf to give great views but not too far from valley/ village. We got to go to a wedding while we were here. Very cool!
