Giellajohka

Got the place recommended from tourist officer in Inari on a hand written paper. Stepped by for dinner with a friends couple and have been very pleased to find that place. Great atmosphere in the restaurant, fresh cooking, it also takes a while until you get your food and very delicious. Service from the owners mum quite perfect. Real Sami feeling, no stress at all and absolutely friendly. I liked it at lot.

Stopped by for some snack. Nice place, super service and great food. Going to be a regular when driving by now and then. Clean facilities. Have tried several dishes from the menu, snacks and mains. Especally the burger is tasty, and the blue cheese dip

I'm here now. What can I say ... The staff, super friendly, from Anita to Jouni and all the rest. Very helpful and always smiling. The location, wow!! If you want an epic wilderness to do some adventures, then Giellajohka is your place. I've been snowshoe trekking which was exhilarating. Today I went ice fishing with Samu a guide from Giellajohka, was like therapy for me. So calming sitting on a frozen lake catching loads of fish after the holes were drilled through the ice. Then Giellajohka kitchen cooked the fish for me when I got back. Brilliant! Northern Lights - 2 nights I've stayed here, 2 immense Aurora shows both nights. They even have a teepee with wood fire to keep you warm when you watch the show. Food - They have excellent facilities and kitchens to cook your own. But I booked breakfast, which is a lovely filling buffet. I also have reindeer soup every evening, it's tremendous. Activities - Lots to do, I'm doing snowmobiling tomorrow, then cross country skiing Wednesday. Also gonna do the traditional hot then ice Finnish sauna. They also have a reindeer farm. So glad I was recommended here. I'll post a few pics as well. But really, there's a reason Giellajohka gets top reviews. Brilliant please, it's like therapy for me, the calm and silence, at one with nature. Love it!

The staff was very warm, welcoming and helpful. Anita took the time every day to explain us what activities to do and when to see the aurora. There was even a whatsapp group chat to help spotting the aurora. Snowshoes, sleds were available for usage at no extra cost. The hut (Routa) was super cosy and comfortable with nice view!

It was awesome, for our Christmas Eve Eve. It felt like a Christmas movie. And the food was great !

Very good, worth the drive. Very comfy. Friendly staff. Well suplied shop. Comfy building. Fire lit. Lots of berries. Excellent fresh reindeer. Convenient oocation for Lappland driving. What a great atmosphere.

Not our first time there and it is never a disappointment! Our favorite place ever, everything is perfect: from the cabine, to the activities, the service, the food.. We will be back!!

Our favorite part of our 10 day Lapland trip was staying at Giellajohka! We only stayed two nights but packed in activities. Giellajohka is a wonderful and warm family-run lodge with modern and beautiful cabins. The cabins are very comfortable and well-equipped for cooking. Do not miss the food at the restaurant though, it is absolutely delicious (also a favorite of our trip)! The family who runs Giellajohka, especially the wonderful Anita are so friendly and helpful with reccomendations. The tours at Giellajohka are well worth the money. Another highlight was learning about Sami culture and reindeer herding with Emma, while having opportunities to feed the reindeer! We only saw the Northern Lights from Giellajohka and it was a spectacular sight, especially with the peaceful surroundings and large windows of the cabin! We only wish we could have stayed longer! Finally, don’t miss reserving the sauna and taking a polar plunge in the frozen river. It sounds terrifying but it feels incredible!

Called ahead to ask for a ride to the starting point of our hike. Cost us 20 euros for two people, got loads of tips including where to leave our car for free for the entire week. They also offered to fill our water bottles in the kitchen for us. Our hike started from someone’s yard so Jesse from Giellajohka very kindly went to knock on their door to let them know we were passing through. Very kind and helpful people, sadly fully booked when we started to look for a place to stay. Everyone we dealt with was extremely nice!
