Hotel Baren - the Place to Rest

Our 4-night stay in Wengen was the highlight of our Switzerland trip. We were so glad to have chosen the Hotel Baren. The rooms were simple but charming, and the beds were exceedingly comfortable. We also had a full balcony with a beautiful view of the Alps and the surrounding town. The hotel staff was lovely, and the food was some of the best we have ever had, either at home or abroad. The dining room offered a great view as well, and it was never too noisy. We loved everything about the hotel--would give it ten stars if I could.

We absolutely loved our time at Hotel Baren. Make sure you get a room with a view...we spent hours sitting on our balcony of an afternoon just soaking it in. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are outstanding and the breakfast is amazing. Home made bead and jam, delicious bacon and eggs - everything you need for a full day of sightseeing. Dinner at Varin was also a highlight.

We loved everything about the Hotel Baren - the spectacular view from our rooms, the amazing food and the friendly and very helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble! This was our second stay and we look forward to visiting again next year.

My daughter and I were guests of the Hotel Baren last week. We had an outstanding stay. The hotel is located in the picturesque village of Wengen, just down the road from the train station. The mountain view from our room was breathtaking. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh orange juice, homemade breads and baked goods, delicious cheeses and various yogurts. The hotel is clean, quiet, and extremely well run.

LOVE the Baren Hotel! From check in to check out… easy. Friendly, accommodating and a perfect location. Few steps away from the train station in a more quieter part of Wengen. From our balcony we watched the cows walk through town and enjoyed the valley overlooking Lauterbrunnen. The restaurant is fantastic! Breakfast in the morning was yummy! Loved the eggs, fresh sourdough bread, homemade jam, bacon…… coffee! Dinner delicious! We tried something different each night and loved each one. Make sure you book your time and eat here every night. Staff amazing! Helpful, kind and courteous… Thank you Sarah for making us feel at home. All the staff…. Ty. Hotel Baren was a wonderful place to stay while visiting Wengen. The hotel was clean & comfortable, the staff (they work both the reception and restaurant) were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect - a short walk from the train station. There is so much to do and see in this region of Switzerland and Hotel Baren was the perfect place to access it all. The hotel restaurant served a wonderful dinner and the views from the patio with the "Alpine Glow" were breathtaking. There is an extensive buffet breakfast in the morning which was a great way to start our day of hiking. Additionally when I mentioned that we had a super early train on our checkout day the staff provided us with a wonderful bagged breakfast to take along with us. I cannot say enough about this amazing little hotel.

My husband and I were traveling for our honeymoon when I unfortunately took a bad fall and was forced to end our trip early. I booked a three night stay towards the last leg of our trip at this hotel which we sadly could no longer fulfill. I was not able to receive a refund on our reservation, even after explaining our situation and providing a doctor’s note. What bothered me the most was the lack of understanding or sympathy from management. They couldn’t even offer us a credit to use in the future. Every other hotel that we had to cancel on was so much more caring and helpful with our unfortunate circumstances - at s minimum we received at least a credit everywhere else. Cautioning you to not book in the event something occurs and you’re unable to travel - you will not be treated well and will lose your money.

For over 40 years we have been visiting Wengen and at last we have arrived at Hotel Bären. We have stayed in several Wengen hotels and this one is at least equal with the best. Yes, it's a sharp hill to walk down for about 150 metres to reach the hotel but the station is right there at the top of the slope. We were made very welcome and this was added to by one of the staff who we knew from visits to another hotel which has now changed hands with less than good results. The bedroom was very comfortable with some unusual extras such as a pair of binoculars and a shoe horn! The space taken up by the shower was the size of a bath so perhaps it's a shame it wasn't a bath with a shower over. A good soak in a bath is an excellent idea on a skiing holiday. Now we come to the best bit - the food. It really was excellent. We took the half board option which meant we could choose from the a la carte menu. A minority of the choices had CHF5 supplements but half board guests staying more than only a few days could also choose items from an extra menu. Small slates were brought to the table with a few house specials written on them so the choice of food was far greater than the menu card leads you to believe at first reading. sometimes the main course was a little late arriving but we've known far worse. The wait was worth it. The owners and staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is not a big over-luxurious affair. It's a family run medium size and comfortable - very comfortable. I may add that the male half of the owning couple is the chef! Thoroughly recommended. We usually stay in Spiez by Lake Thun in the summer and precede that with a few days elsewhere ,often in a part of Switzerland we don't know. This year the first few days will be in Wengen at hotel Bären.
