The resort in itself is beautiful but a few things completely put us off from visiting again. Firstly, the Masai vendors on the beach. These guys are on the beach from sunset until after dawn. The hotel employs several security guards to keep them at bay but the moment you pass the guards to enter the ocean they will all swarm at you, trying to sell their goods. They do not easily take no for an answer. The guards will daily draw a line in the sand which these guys are not allowed to overstep. However, they will go stand just behind the line and call out and stare at you all day. So uncomfortable!!! We were looking forward to long walks on the beach but due to this we couldn't. Secondly is the tipping culture. In our experience, the level of service that you will get will greatly depend on this. You are also very quickly "known" if you don't tip for every smile you get. People are also very blunt and will stand and wait or ask until you tip. I usually do not carry cash around with me, I am after all on holiday, and only tip at the end. This doesn't go off very well here. This really spoilt the beautiful environment for me. I've paid a fair price for my stay, and I didn't like to know that people will only be friendly if I tip them well. We observed no concern for the preservation of the coral reeves. Boats will drive right over the coral, and you can hear it break. Most coral are already dead and the little remaining will not last long. Once in the water, the boatsman will feed the fish with bread to attract them to you. Starfish are taken from the sea to attract customers and then dumped. Very, very sad to see. Lastly, we bought an all-inclusive package. This meant food and alcohol is included. However, on day three we discovered that this didn't extend to water. If we wanted water, we had to drink from the dispenser which was always hot or we had to buy it. This came as a surprise, free alcohol but pay for water. There was also always a shortage of ice and most of the time we could only get 2-3 ice blocks. We then thought to stick to fruit juice in the dispensers, but these were significantly watered down and tasteless. The minibar advertised in the room was also never stocked, even after asking about it three times. Oh! and the Jacuzzi's that you see on the promotional material......none of them work.
