We stayed at the Aprota Villas for 2 nights during our recent tour of Sri Lanka. We had originally booked another hotel in Arugam Bay but after a disastrous experience we transferred to the Aprota Villas. We were originally very reluctant to move here as the Trip Advisor reviews, even as recent as September 23, were negative on almost every aspect of the villas. However, our guide assured us that the villas had undergone a transformative change under new and highly experienced management and should be checked out. We followed his advice and it was correct. The previous negative reviews were no longer applicable. The room we inspected was spacious, thoughtfully designed and meticulously maintained. All the villas around had evidently undergone renovations. The surrounding gardens were lush and beautifully landscaped. We did not visit the beach as our trip to Arugam Bay was largely to visit the Kumana National Park. We enjoyed excellent service. The Head Chef prepared dishes on request and the food was plenty and delicious. Service staff, including the restaurant server, were well trained and displayed professionalism and courtesy throughout our stay. The management were also helpful in providing us with advice on other local attractions. As this was early days for the new management, there were a few minor hitches such as Wi-Fi issues and occasional power cuts. We assume these have been addressed since our visit. A problem for us was the distance between the villa and the restaurant, particularly as I’d sprained my ankle at the previous hotel. A suggestion for the future would be the availability of a buggy or golf cart for older or less mobile guests. Arugam Bay is a less developed but beautiful area. We enjoyed our 2 days at the Aprota Villas and would certainly return here if we visit this area again.
