We stayed for 3 nights in July. It was awful. The first night we were put in a tiny room. It felt grubby (with sellotape around piping, bed sheets with tears, a mattress with brown stains, a tap that was too big for the tiny sink and projected water everywhere, cabinet doors that were bulging with water retention....). The room was on the first floor and had a shared balcony with other rooms, it had an unsecured walk-in window (tiny loose bolts and rotten wood in the window frames), so anyone could pull/push hard on the window handle and walk in. One of the bed slats broke when I initially lay down. The bed was pushed against the wall and the small TV was hanging over it from a bracket. We got minimal sleep (maybe 1-2 hours) the first night mainly due to the security issues, but also the heat (no air con) and the noise of other people. The next morning (after minimal/no sleep) we asked at reception to get changed to a different room. We were put into a better apartment on the ground floor, but similarly, there were security issues; the bathroom window could only be locked by screwing it tightly with an alan key (which unsurprisingly we didn't have...) the bedroom window had no lock or latch and could be easily opened from outside. When we got into this 2nd room we noticed how warm it was. It turns out the heating was on at full and did not turn off, it took them a few hours to turn it off. So the room was absolutely boiling hot all day and night. Thus minimal sleep again.... The furnishings were grubby and there was a general feeling that the whole enterprise was about trying to part guests from their money instead of trying to offer them a quality place to stay. When we checked-in they took a pre-payment of £200 for potential damages. Looking at what we had to endure it now seems like a joke: they should be paying us that £200 for mental health damages. When we checked out there were a couple of elderly guests explaining to reception that there was water leaking into their apartment from the overhead light fitting. We could only imagine the hellish few days they would have to spend in there.... We chose to stay here as our initial hotel closed suddenly and cancelled our stay, so we needed somewhere fast. It was close to Hyde Park thus handy for attending the BST Festival. When we did attend the festival we were so tired and stressed out from the lack of sleep that we couldn't enjoy the bands and left early. Very disappointing. We found ourselves having to stay out longer than we wanted each day as we wanted to avoid the stress of being in the rotten apartment. What a great holiday.... The only positive about the place was the location and the receptionist (Rose) who tried to help when she could and apologised a lot. We told her that she was too good for this place and needed to find a job in a quality hotel where her customer service skills would be put to better use. Any We stayed for 3 nights in July.
