We arrived outside the hotel having had to walk through a load of people taking *****, in an alley way that stank of urine and stale beer. The hotel can't control that, and I understand that, but the thought of having to walk past that late at night was very unnerving. However alarm bells really started to ring when the hotel front door was locked. We rang the bell as instructed and stood outside the hotel for 10 minutes. Another man who was waiting eventually rang reception and we were buzzed in. The man on reception looked like he would rather be any where else (I can't say I blamed him to be fair) and was surly to say the least. Customer service definitely wasn't his forte! He gave us the key to our room, having asked for a driving licence (which I wasn't asked for and didn't have to give him as I don't drive). Upon opening the door to our room it was immediately obvious we wouldn't be staying any longer than it took to find another hotel. The room barely had space for the bed that was in it, there were what looked like bullet holes in the wall (I'm sure they weren't but they looked very suspicious), there was left over ******** and tobacco crumbs in the drawers, the cups hadn't been washed, the kettle was full of slimy water, and the curtains were essentially rags in the window. Despite the promise of 24/7 reception, in the 10 minutes it took us to book a new hotel somewhere else, the guy on reception had disappeared, so we had no choice but but leave the keys on reception and simply message to say we weren't staying. I'm not a snob, and we've stayed in sketchy places before, but this was absolutely disgusting. I've never walked away from a hotel before, but I honestly couldn't get away from this one quickly enough. Avoid at all costs!
