Macedon Ranges Hotel & Spa

Lovely views from room. Abit noisy being so close to the highway. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open and the spa was booked out.

The hotel was in a nice location with a good outlook but the restaurant was closed which we weren’t told until arrival, there were lots of cobwebs indoors and our room wasn’t serviced during the stay. The room was a good size but overall expected a little more for the price.

It is not a hotel but a old motel, ******* needs to insure the descriptive is correct and facilities as shown on web are actually open.

Perfect location to retreat from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne for a night or two and explore the Macedon Ranges shops, breweries, wineries, food, hiking, and galleries.

Advertised as a hotel, but it turned out to be a motel and a poor one at that. While the view from the room was nice, that was the only good thing about this place. Upon entering the room, we noticed a laminated card that said “our water is being tested please drink these complimentary bottles” next to two measly 600ml bottles of water. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel or motel to not have clean drinking water readily available in the room. Reading other reviews, I found out that this has been an ongoing issue for at least three months, which is appalling. To make matters worse, we were excited to try out the spa bath, only to find out that the water was barely lukewarm. We spent 10 minutes trying to fill the bath, but the water was coming out of the faucet stone cold. This completely ruined the whole reason we booked here in the first place. It seems like the hot water system can't keep up with the occupancy or just doesn't work at all. To add insult to injury, we couldn't even take a shower because of the lack of hot water for the remainder of the night. The grounds were in disrepair and looked shabby, which was a big letdown. The bed was uncomfortable, and the TV was better suited to a caravan than a ‘hotel’. If you need any help from reception, forget about it. They only operate strict hours and then leave you stranded. This is not what I expect from a hotel. Overall, I would never stay here again. The lack of clean drinking water, hot water, and basic amenities make this place a complete disappointment. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the Macedon Hotel and Spa for 2 nights. Excellent rooms - spacious, spotlessly clean - with spa looking out to the bush setting Well located to nearby Woodend and Macedon. There is also a fabulous restaurant on site - The Wine Collective - excellent food and service in a lovely setting. Recommended

Booked based on pictures and facilities advertised but definitely wish I had read the reviews here first because we paid $450 and had no facilities beyond the room itself. Positives- room was as pictured, large, spa was nice, was pleasant looking at the tree tops from the spa, gas fire was great, bath robes very nice and soft, lady at reception helpful and informed us straight away about day spa being closed (which I knew from website) and restaurant not open (which I could not ascertain from website). Negatives- overpriced, couldn't see 'the mountain view' because the trees have grown up (to cover the Calder Highway I assume) but also now block what would be a great view of the mountain, room was NOT meticulously clean, TV kept getting interference (from planes?) and difficult to watch, not a Smart TV either so couldn't connect up my own Netflix or anything to provide viewing beyond free to air TV, the pool only open 9-5 (outside our time at the motel), the restaurant only open Wed- Sat (not when we stayed) and the general feel of the properry is 'uncared' for as far as maintenance goes, EG cracked tiles, broken mantelpiece, outside needing a good powerwash.

The room had amazing views, so beautiful and a lovely place to sit and watch the sunset. The morning was so lovely to watch the fog rise off the mountain and see the bunnies running around. We were disappointed that there was an odour in our bathroom, we moved the diffuser to try and cover the smell but we could still smell it. When I had a shower the water was luke warm, when we had a spa the water was Luke warm so I had to keep boiling the kettle to add some boiling water to make it a reasonable temp.

Check-on, having noted online we could secure with a credit card and pay cash on arrival, arrived and they had processed our card, wouldn’t refund. Room had a lovely view but very basic. As the night went on the drains started to smell, even the tap water smelt disgusting. Kept us awake. Couldn’t wait to get out. No one available at checkout 0900? Pillows hard, shower filthy and outdoor corridors dirty. Would not be returning.
