I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a guesthouse in an ancient Hui village! The rooms were relatively new and spacious, and the courtyard was charming and spotless. It's a shame I only stayed one night. The Hui lady was beautiful and kind, and the breakfast was heartwarming and delicious. This place is so beautiful; I've discovered a treasure! To escape the frenzy of Kunming ancient town, we took a 2.5 hr train ride to Weishan - an authentic, uncommercialized old town with the splendid Yuan Chuang Yi Su hotel. The bed is super comfortable, and the window seat great for relaxing after a truly hot shower. Sanitized towels are delivered daily in sealed bags and CGTN for foreign guests is available on a huge TV! Yuan Chuang Yi Su's owner is a Mensch. His fluency in English and passion for his adopted town enriched our China trip. He sensed my vegetarian needs and whisked me off to the local market! Yuan Chuang Yi Su is the smartest, but the least expensive of our 28 day trip in Guangdong - Yunnan. We relished the smart set-up, the gleaming interior and delightful neighborhood of eateries. The hotel is truly a train-rider's dream: just 25 minute walk away from Weishan Railway station and 5 minutes from the inexpensive tourist buses that take you as far as Weibaoshan and East Lotus Village.

Aside from the location, it was a very good hotel. There is a free shuttle service between Weishan Station and the hotel. When booking, if you tell them your high-speed train time, they will pick you up on time, and when you return, you can ask the front desk and they will take you back to the station. You need to walk about 15 minutes to Weishan Ancient City, a tourist attraction. The room was clean and very spacious, and you could control the curtains and lights with your voice. The toilet and shower room were separate, and all the necessary amenities were provided. If you are going to Weibaoshan, you can buy advance tickets at the front desk, which are cheaper than same-day tickets, so I recommend buying them in advance.
