The Rock Inn never disappoints, a lovely idyll of a place which maintains its tradition as an 18th Century Inn full of history and antique charm. The food is excellent and the beds most comfortable. The staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive. The cost restaurant come bar is welcoming with a large inglenook fireplace blazing away to keep to give this room a traditional ambience of times past. We love this place and will be back again.

We visited New Years Eve for Lunch. It’s been many years since we have been. The food was very good. We had the Roast Sirloin of Beef and the Haddock and Chips. It was delicious. Very well presented and a good size portion. Desserts were very nice Rice Pudding with apple compote I think we felt this was a rather small portion. The Christmas pudding was very light not overly boozy. Tiny portion of clotted cream which was a slight disappointment. Good price good service we will be back.

This was an excellent stay for us, warm welcome from Oliver, we had dined here previously and the food was so good we decided to book for our Anniversary. We had a totally relaxing stay, we stayed in Lovely Cottage a delightful four poster room with a spacious bathroom, exceptionally pleased to have a lovely bath. Our dinner was amazing, the food is of a very high standard and beautifully presented. We had curried parsnip soup amuse-bouche for hors d’oeuvre before our dinner. My husband said his scallops were the best he has had for sometime. We both had rump steak which was perfectly cooked. I even had a favourite Pedro Ximenez sherry. We won’t hesitate in returning. All the staff are very accommodating. We wish we had stayed longer. We even had breakfast in our room a special stay for us. Highly recommend.

Yet again, a first class meal in this beautiful, traditional Dartmoor establishment with friends. A return visit for us, and definitely did not disappoint, excellent menu, superb local ingredients, beautifully prepared and presented, accompanied with a superb wine list to boot Great friendly service, a definite Gem in Dartmoor’s Crown

The Rock Inn was recommended to us by someone in Ashburton's delicatessen so we decided to try it for lunch whilst staying nearby. So glad we did. We had a fabulous lunch - 3 courses for £20. Started with a delicious artichoke soup which came with a mushroom bruschetta on the side. To follow we both had halibut-on-the-bone on a bed of lemon risotto in a buttery sauce. Gorgeous. We both had a chocolate, salted caramel and ice cream dessert. Don't be put off by the olde worlde decor - that is all part of the charm. Candles on the table at lunchtime - great. Highly recommend.

This one of Dartmoor’s best kept secrets, a wonderful old fashioned inn with bedrooms plus delicious food. Quaint it maybe but that it is its charm, please don’t change anything. Wonderful staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home. Good food, good wine list and great beer. The bedrooms are well appointed and comfortable. Simply a great place to spend a day or two relaxing and chilling out as well as lovely Dartmoor walks. It is most uplifting and good for one’s well being.

My sister and I visit Dartmoor each year to walk near Haytor where we spent may happy childhood picnics and where our mother's ashes are scattered. We prefer to stay at the Rock Inn (where our parents honeymooned in 1956) as we love the warm welcome and excellent food. This year there was a mix-up with the booking and our twin room was arranged as a double-bed. Within minutes our host had graciously offered my sister her own room at no extra cost - luckily there were unbooked rooms. The friendly service she provided throughout our stay deserves special mention. Dinner was also exceptionally good - a step up from previous years where it was simply 'really good' - and certainly not overpriced for the quality and taste. We finished the evening with Dartmoor Gin and Dartmoor Whisky (the one finished in sherry casks) down in the snug... if you visit make sure you find this - just the place to feel protected from the winter's weather.

All the staff at The Rock were so helpful. In particular Sharon! We were quite a large group with many requests but each was dealt with without fuss. Our room, at the top, was spacious with a fabulous bathroom. The evening set Menu was all delicious. Great service in the restaurant. Good wine list, interesting selection.

The food is wonderful. We tend to go for Sunday lunch. Sharon always looks after us with a lovely table so we have plenty of space for my mother’s walker. Excellent choice for gluten free so I don’t miss out. . Relaxing and enjoyable experience.
