Nozawa Grand Hotel

The village is not big. You can get off the bus and walk a few hundred meters uphill. The hotel is at the top of the mountain. The hotel has arranged the quietest room with beautiful scenery. The hot spring is just one floor below the room, which is very convenient. There is a milk vending machine at the entrance of the hot spring. The water inside is relatively hot and people flow quickly. There are almost no people in the afternoon. A different themed set meal is arranged every night, with a detailed menu and the name of the chef. This is my first time to experience this kind of Japanese food. I wonder if it is called one stay and two meals? The waiter tried his best to introduce the dishes and how to eat them in Japanese and English. The whole process was enjoyable, surprising and pleasant. Although the hotel staff are older, their service quality is high and they feel as relaxed and comfortable as going home. I took my children and grandchildren to a nostalgic hot spring inn that I had visited many times while skiing when I was a student.It had the same appearance as before, the open-air bath was still intact, and I was able to fully enjoy the view from the hill. The inn felt old in many places, and there were few young staff members, and the children said that Nagano Electric Railway's management should do more, but for us, who are elderly, it was a comfortable inn where we could stay calmly. For dinner, we enjoyed a leisurely country-style dinner in a large restaurant. It takes about 10 minutes from the inn to the source of Asagama, which is a good walking distance, and there are souvenir shops along the way, so I think the location is great.

First time in Nozawa Onsen. I didn't have much interest in it because I thought the hot water would have an average sulfur smell, but I heard that the open-air baths in winter would be lukewarm. . Although it feels old, it was not an old-fashioned hotel, probably because it was originally a good hotel. The room has everything you need and you won't feel any inconvenience. However, paper towels were in the toilet and washrooms were ordinary towels, so this is the opposite, right? I thought. It's a pity that the dinner was not impressive because the appetizer was good. I expected how good the authentic Nozawana was, but I was disappointed that it was the same as the Nozawana I usually buy at the supermarket. The breakfast was a buffet, and there were many kinds of bread, and it was wrapped in small portions, so this was good. Shine Muscat all-you-can-eat was unexpected and I was really happy. I drank milk from a bottle, too! That's what I feel. The large public bath is hemp pot. The sulfur smell is weak as expected, and it feels like... The tatami mat floor is safe for the elderly. In the three bathtubs, the hot water bathtub was unexpectedly at the level of normal hot water and I could not stand it. If you think that the source is hot because it's hot water, it's simply because the hot water tub is narrow. The slightly hot water bath is a large bath, so the temperature is lower than the hot water bath. In the sleeping bath, the hot water from the large bathtub flows as it is and is shallow, so the temperature drops further. I was disappointed in the large public bath, so I thought that the open-air bath would not be good, but the smell of sulfur was strong and the temperature was just right, so I felt that this was just wonderful. The source is Shinyu + Hemp pot, and when the temperature drops, the source of Hemp pot seems to increase. However, I expected early in the morning even though I was disappointed because I could not enter in the middle of the night and it was late in the morning. As expected, the elevator leading to the open-air bath did not work, so I went to the public bath to kill time. Compared to the day before, it's getting hotter overall. I could only put my feet in hot water. The open-air bath opened, so I thought I would expect it, but the open-air bath was so hot that I could only enter a little. Well, this is Nozawa Onsen... After eating breakfast while facing reality, I went home without soaking in the hot spring. The customer service was good, so this was no problem. I wish the dinner was a little better. Without considering the quality of the spring, I felt that it was a 4, which is close to a 3.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights to ski and see the village where Nozawa Onsen is located, which I hear is highly rated. The hotel is located at the far end of the village, about 500 meters from the Shin-yu double chair lift, which takes you to the Hirage Gondola (where there is a ski school, information desk, coffee shop, etc.). The lift is free, but if you want to ski then you have to buy a ticket at the top. You can't ski back to the base of the lift, you have to sit back by the lift. The walk to the ropeway is hilly but short and none of us in our group had trouble wearing ski boots and snowboards. On arrival at the hotel we were shown to our room and the maid made and poured tea and she was very hospitable. The hotel room was very clean. Our room had two western style beds and a tatami area with futon mattresses. The maid put down the mattress for us every night and put it away while we were having breakfast. The room has a fridge, minibar, kettle with green tea, a small snack or cake every day, air conditioning, alarm clock, flat screen TV (both Japanese stations), good shower and sink. But we mainly bathed in the hotel's hot spring shower, first in the purification area, and then sat in the hot spring pool for a few minutes. This is very relaxing after a day of skiing. The hot spring is big and after dinner, you basically enjoy the hot spring exclusively. The breakfast was Japanese with some western stuff, bacon, sausage, and it was great, including grilled fish, salad and steamed broccoli with a nice Japanese salad dressing, a variety of veggies I can't name and Pickles, rice, miso, rice dumplings, porridge, etc. and the best croissants and good coffee. Breakfast is included in the room rate. It's a pity we didn't try to have dinner in the restaurant as there was a communication issue. The price of dinner is expensive, 500 yuan per person, and the food is Japanese food with fixed menu. Nobody speaks good English in this hotel, our Japanese is limited, so we struggled with little things like recommending restaurants for dinner, how to use the electric kettle, is there a shuttle bus from the hotel to the ski slopes (there is none), the hotel lobby and The story behind the pot bird with wheels around the village, etc., are in trouble. As in many Japanese hotels and restaurants, smoking is an issue, especially in cold weather. There is also a computer in the stairwell with a high-speed internet connection (free), but no wifi, and the computer I brought couldn't connect to the internet. This village is wonderful. There are sure to be many small restaurants to try, all cheap and some high end too. Most have menus in English, and the owner has enough English to take orders etc, but struggles with special requests or questions (e.g. whether eggs are hot or cold). Pork ramen is always a safe bet, tasty and cheap. There are 13 hot springs in the village (indoor hot springs, separate pools for men and women), and they are all free (you can donate some money in the box). We didn't try the onsen as it was always full when we went and the hotel has its own onsen.
