Hotel Colonial Playa del Carmen

Just left Hotel Colonial after a 7 night stay. Everyone at the hotel from the people that worked behind the desk, to the Security Guard (Abraham), to the maids, all were so friendly and helpful and all treated me like a VIP (which I'm not!) Basic room, but a king sized bed, refrigerator, a/c, great water pressure, room safe, and tv. I couldn't find any English speaking channels, but I wasn't there to watch tv, so really not an issue. Food carts right around the corner on Calle 2. Fifth Avenue 3 blocks away. El Fogon, on Avenida 30 a 5 minute walk. Walmart & Mega app a 10-12 walk (max). I didn't use the pool, but it was very big and right behind the lobby, looked great. No elevators, but I was only 1 floor up so no issues for me. I would stay at Hotel Colonisl again without hesitation.

The same day as I needed a stay, I made a reservation (approximately 8PM). Only after I made the reservation was I informed that the check-in period ended at 6 PM. When I tried to call them to explain the circumstances, no one answered the phone. I called and called and called, but no one answered. It was pure luck that I was able to find an alternative place to stay, but the reservation was nonrefundable. It's a good thing they didn't require my card information, because I would have reported the charges as fraudulent.

loved the area and hotel staff and very cute hotel.visited during christmas and noticed the sun does not hit the courtyard or pool so you really cant swim unless you like it cold and you need to walk to beach to tan. did not appreciate the constant door slamming that just did not seem to stop from guest's but thats not the hotels fault. we bought ear plugs for that. all in all..we loved this small hotel

Our valuable properties were stolen by their workers and they did not help us at all. Terrible hotel, never come to this one!

Suitable location and has a fair price-benefit. Cannot use the pool since they use it for scuba diving training. So not available.

Excellent value at the Colonial. Super clean spacious air conditioned rooms with a powerful shower, and a big screen TV. Pool area is spotless and attractive! Will stay here again!

I was there for 2 nights. I enjoyed my stay but the only bad experience was that i hang the sign to clean up my room and the housekeeper failed to do it. I left around 1130am and returned around 530pm and my room was untouched.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Colonial (it shows up as SC Hotel on google maps). It has a charming look to it with the pool in the central courtyard. It sits a few blocks off of the touristy 5th Ave, but close enough to walk to the beach. It is also a short walk to the town hall plaza, which comes to life with families in the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful about explaining where things were around town. We noticed there were mostly hispanic families staying in this hotel, but we got by with our limited Spanish skills. We got what we payed for, a safe and clean place: AC worked, clean sheets and towels plus toiletries, safe in the room, breakfast available next door for purchase, screens on the windows. It is by no means a 5 star luxury hotel. At night you can hear the sound of people at the pool or music from down the street, but with the fan or AC on it is mostly drowned out. Would definitely stay here again with the family!
