Dear Royal Palm Suite Hotel Management Team, I am writing this review in response to the review done by Jay D and to your response to his same review. I concur with everything that was mentioned in the review done by Jay D. I am disappointed at your team's response; here are the several reasons why: Upon check-in, we were surprised and shocked at the standard of tidiness and cleanliness of the room. We decided not to bring this matter up, since we were too shocked and surprised, and therefore decided to accept that the management deems the room ready and good for check-in at this filthy and untidy condition. There was no point to get staff to clean the room all over again, since it was the evening and all the housekeeping staff were gone for the day. We also spoke to no one because there was no absolutely no point for this, considering how laughable the whole situation was. We had everything under control from our end; there was no need for any assistance. We did not make any complaints because the standards of cleanliness are just laughable and we accepted this ridiculousness. If for all of these examples – stains on the bedlinen and upholstery, rusty shower curtain rail, dust under the beds and all furniture, dust and dirt behind curtains on window sills, water stains on all crockery and utensils, limescale residue and stains in the kettle, broken ironing board, stained and dirty iron, stains on towels, curtains with missing hooks, etc – were present upon check-in and this was deemed ready for stay, surely arriving to all of this in the evening would make it futile for us to request for rectification. Of course the problem was the cost of the room! I mean really? Iron broken by another guest; so it's ok to give it to us to use? I mean really? Yes all pictures on the website were actual, but has anyone paid attention to come closer? I mean really? Would you be totally happy to stay in the room you let us check into? You let us check into a room that looked like that. I mean really? There will be no apology.

I stayed and was the one who booked the room where the front desk clerk took $100 US and wrote a receipt that I didn't sign for $20 US deposit. We were expecting a deposit, but not $100 US. I, myself, didn't have $100 US in cash, but my traveling had some cash so we split the deposit. When leaving for our plane the morning of our departure, they showed me the receipt and I argued that wasn't correct. The staff on hand said they had security cameras and could check the tapes. I have not heard back from them. I hope they can prove with video that we only paid $20 US, and not $100 US for the deposit. Lest I am not confused about the difference between USD and TTD.

Based on past reviews, we were prepared not to expect much for the ridiculous amount of money paid for this run down hotel. We reserved late so everything was booked for Carnival except The Royal Palm. BUT, we were not prepared to be deceived and have our money stolen by a front desk staff member. When we checked in on a Saturday night, the front desk lady asked for a $100 cash key deposit. We thought this was strange and also a lot of money in US dollars but it was a late Saturday night so we trustingly gave the deposit (without getting a receipt). Upon check out, there was a new set of staff who told us only $20 US dollars was noted for our deposit and they had no idea because the deposit should have been 100 TT. They supposedly called the manager but we never heard anything or received any follow up about our money. Everyone basically played stupid and we had to catch a plane so there was no recourse. Again, we were prepared for anything about the hotel conditions but not to be blatantly stolen from by the front desk.

False advertising. No words can describe this establishment and its staff members. Absolutely terrible, very clean, very unsafe. We checked in and straight away had to go to the local supermarket to purchase cleaning products.. because this place was unliveable. Honestly we only stayed because everything else was booked up for the Trinidad carnival period. There was no safe in our room. Pillows cases were dirty ..so we also purchased our own cases . Towels was stained.. This was the most by far the worst experience at any hotel I have even had. At £230 per night . We asked for an iron and board, what came was not short of an electrocution. The iron was broken .. literally!!! ( see pictures attached with this review. It’s just shocking what some establishments can get away with. Not only do their website images are fake and untrue.. it’s also very unhealthy and ver unsafe. Imagine taking your young children and family there expecting a pleasant and happy stay. THIS IS A WARNING!!! Do not understand any circumstances book or recommend The Royal Palm Suite Hotel in Trinidad 7 Saddle Road to anyone EVER!!! They are con-artists. ,dishonest and not be trusted!!!

My sister and I booked this hotel to stay from 16th Feb to 2nd March 14 nights in total of which we stayed 3 nights. Our room was big and filthy. We had to clean down shelves before we could unpack and having travelled from Ireland we were tired and needed a shower but no hot water! The bed sheets were old and worn and grey when they should have been white and the pillows were disgusting. When we awoke the next morning the sun shon through the torn curtains which had been patched with iron on tape!! We booked this hotel because of its proximity to the city, the photos and it was quite expensive so we thought it had to be good. I could go on but my advice would be don’t stay there!!!!

I enjoyed my stay and the bed was very comfortable. But I was very disappointed in the Wi-Fi connection. The Wi-Fi connection didn’t connect in my room. They definitely need to invest in a stronger Wi-Fi connection for the whole hotel property.

Overall - 1/10 Bad. Paid $4k for 2 Rooms during Carnival. The good: close to food and the staff is friendly, that's it. The Bad: check-in process was efficient but not the greatest. I liked how they treated me like I was a member of their family - I felt welcomed and safe. At the room, entry door handle is shabby and anyone can access any room with a credit card -- huge red flag. Security is downstairs but he's not always there. They did their best to clean, but that was not enough. Spider cobwebs on the lamps, corners, and inside simple-to-reach places like the draws. Lots of draws and closet space but you can't use them because the wood is dilapidated. Phones and the internet in the rooms do not work. Sheets seemed new, but the comforters had rust stains. Bathroom is a nightmare. The shower curtain rings were super-super rusty, along with the water handles. The shower's hot water would turn cold mid-shower, and the water would not drain. Imagine trying to get clean after Jouvert and waiting for ankle-high water to drain so you can clean your feet. The toilet would not flush, so I had to be creative after each #2 -- flush a total of 3+ times until it all disappeared. Overall the hotel is in a state of disrepair or ruin as a result of age or neglect. I learned they've been closed down for a while but reopened about 9 months before Carnival to prepare for the crowd. This is not a hotel; it's more of a salvaged, outdated rental.
