Perhentian Kecil (Small Perhentian Island) Perhentian Island, located on the east coast of Malaysia in Terengganu state, immediately brings to mind images of beaches, the sea, sunshine, and diving. Bubu Resort is conveniently situated next to the jetty at Long Beach on Perhentian Kecil, offering views of Perhentian Besar (Big Perhentian Island) and stunning sunrises. The area under the jetty is also a great spot for snorkeling. During holidays, many locals bring their children here to play in the water. It's a paradise for Western tourists and a haven for diving enthusiasts. Getting there: You can take an overnight bus from TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) to Kuala Besut bus station. From there, it's just a 10-minute walk to the jetty. You can book your boat tickets online or purchase them at the counter. Additionally, there's a jetty entrance fee of RM2 and a marine park conservation fee (RM30 for foreigners vs. RM5 for locals). Layover: The last boat departs the island at 4:00 PM. If you need a place to rest while waiting for an evening bus or flight, you can book a room near the Kuala Besut jetty or bus station. As it's a small town, it's advisable to book your layover accommodation in advance, especially during peak season. Sani Bus offers rooms for rent for 3 hours, as shown in the picture below.

The room was tiny, and the sink was so low it was uncomfortable to bend over. If you book a front-facing sea view room, you might get a unique ocean perspective, but beware: they might put you in a side wing where you only see other buildings. You'd have to go out to the balcony to see the sea, which defeats the purpose of a sea view room. A 24-sqm front-facing sea view room costs 2800 per night, and there's a risk of being assigned to a side wing, making it poor value for money and a big gamble. However, the beach loungers are comfortable after 4 PM, offering great views. For 2800 a night, they provide almost no services; all transfers are an extra charge, 100 MYR per person, and 40 MYR for the boat to the pier. In contrast, Marriott, for just over 2000, offers free transfers and excellent service, making it a much more pleasant experience for the money spent. This place just left me feeling frustrated after spending so much.

Probably one of the best places to stay in Kecil, although it's a bit pricey.

I think this resort is not worth the price. The reason why I gave poor facilities is that we rented snorkeling equipment from the front desk. There was only one at the front desk. The staff said that they would contact their colleagues to solve the problem, but it was not solved in the end. I still had to find the rental equipment outside. Only breakfast is free in the restaurant. Lunch and dinner are paid. Just like our free breakfast, the charges are very high. There are ants in the juice drinks, which is disgusting. The shrimps are also moldy. In the next few days, we went to other places to eat. In short, this price is not worth it. Here is an even more outrageous thing. After we checked out, the front desk arranged for the staff to help us take the luggage to the dock. Then the staff said to go back to the front desk to get other gifts, and then help us take the gifts to the boat later. The boat was about to leave, but no staff came. My wife is not convenient to carry heavy things, so I can only take the gifts one by one on the boat. Is this a deception?
