Came for a Spa day. The spa as always was lovely. Very good quality treatments. Lovely shower facilities. It is a very small and quiet spa so depends what you want. The rest of the trip was a huge disappointment . This is our third trip here. It was only when we arrived that we were made aware that the grill on the alley restaurant was closed. Only “ pub food “ is now available. On arrival there were only 4 people in the bar area . We waited 20 minutes to be served a coffee despite asking three members of staff. The coffee was weak, cold and my mug was chipped and very badly stained. After the spa we decided to have a snack in the restaurant. Because we hadn’t booked a table we had to sit in the bar area. It was laughable as all tables were empty ! We ordered food and asked to look at the evening menu and promptly cancelled our table for dinner and booked another restaurant in the area. We asked for a bottle of Beaujolais to be told sorry we don’t have much wine in stock. The wines that were available were very average. We had booked a decent room , as we thought! Room 2. The shower is full of mildew which is not acceptable . It is the older part of the hotel but the stone window frames are full of black mould. Sadly this is a “has been “hotel and we will not be returning. Such a shame as the location is lovely

We stayed at Stanley House for 1 night whilst attending a wedding. I won't review the wedding aspect as we were just guests but with regards to our accommodation we had a lovely stay. We were in room 1 in the older building which felt very special with it's roll top bath and secluded position. It had everything we needed including a good coffee machine. The only improvement may be to offer some firmer pillows, my Wife said that the pillows were far too soft for her liking. The building itself was beautiful and we liked the small snug as you walked in (would be lovely in the winter with the fire lit). Breakfast was delicious, the scrambled egg cooked to perfection. All the reception staff were very pleasant, especially the girl when we checked out but unfortunately I didn't catch he name to mention (14/04 10am). Our own wedding anniversary was the day following the wedding so this stay also came as a lovely treat to celebrate it. Thanks.

The spa facilities are fabulous, with welcoming, attentive and friendly staff. Super treatments, with great recommendation's, and wonderful products. Best spa I have been to, with lovely views. They keep the numbers down, so it does not get too crowded. The restaurant was not as good, sadly - the service was slow, and the staff did not seem like they wanted to be there. I had been told there would be a birthday plate for my daughter, but this did not happen.

We booked afternoon tea at Stanley House as a pre-mother’s day treat. The tea arrived in mugs with no saucers approximately 15 minutes before the food. There were no spoons provided to remove the tea bags etc. By the time the food arrived, the tea was cold and we would have had to pay extra if we wanted additional tea as the tea didn’t arrive in a pot. There were no plates provided for us to eat our food from. When we asked for plates we were received with a puzzled look from the waitress. She then proceeded to bring out saucers to eat from. It was extremely difficult to eat sandwiches, scones and desserts all from the same saucer. In addition the food served was quite minimal for the price of £30 per person. This was by the far the worst afternoon tea I have been to.

We only came for a spa trip as my friends booked it for my birthday. On arrival everything seemed great, got into the spa and it’s very small, we thought it would be fine but more and more people kept coming in, there’s only 4 heated lounging beds to sit on and that’s it. There’s a little water fountain and that’s the only drink you can have in the spa and the water wasn’t even cold. We decided to get a little bit of food in the restaurant but we wished we had left it and gone to the nearest greggs or something. When we got there we were all really hungry and thirsty after the spa so we sat on a table near the bar just to look at the menus, went to order at the till and the girl said she would seat us at a table after we had ordered. Took AGES for our drinks to come, could see some of them on the side for ages too. Then our food was even longer. We could see someone brought our food out put it on the side and asked where it was going to. The girl looked at us and realised she hadn’t sat us at a table (there was loads of tables empty but they were all full of plates and needed tidying) we decided to just stay where we were sat, hardly any staff on at all and when the chicken skewers came they were not great and she didn’t give us cutlery either. Left as quick as we could. Would not go back to this place and they really need to change up some stuff.

What a shame as this place was once the best in the area. The service is absolutely shocking. There are very little staff around and the ones that are present are all very young and need a lot of training. Not there fault as this is obviously the managements fault. The hotel isn’t the cleanest with tables left uncleared, the toilets were in an awful state as well and in the spa there were wet towels left lying around in the changing rooms which isn’t very hygienic. Fred’s restaurant is the real let down of the whole hotel. With extortionate prices for poor quality food and very limited options when it comes to the drinks menu. From what I can gather the hotel has been taken over by a management company which is probably why the service and quality has dropped and they have recently appointed a new Manager who I wish all the very best but from looking back at these reviews he is the latest in a long list of managers who have been and gone. So the problems obviously lie deeper. I would avoid this place and go elsewhere in the area.

Stunning hotel, set in lovely grounds. Check in was seamless, efficient, and helpful, as it was our first stay we were even taken to our rooms. That service carried on with our trip to the spa. Brilliant stuff met us and showed us round. Very clean areas over looking a duck pond. Meal was good, and staff were attentive. Drinks a little slow to arrive perhaps the only ******. Room no 1 beautiful. Huge and spotless. The bed was so comfortable we almost passed out cold. Wonderful sleep, no noise over night and blackout curtains. Check out again all good with lovely friendly staff. The whose hotel also smelt devine throughout! Gym again very clean, and much better equipped than most hotel gyms! 💪👍

Wow! What an absolute delight to go and celebrate my birthday meal at Stanley House restaurant. The staff were outstanding especially the young waitress called HAFI she really was welcoming, kind and very attentive. She made sure my afternoon there was perfect in every possible way. A massive thank you to Hafi for making my day sooo special.
