A place of extreme peace. Loved our stay even if the endless Christmas music over 3 days really became a bit too much.
The location is gorgeous, the staff and locals are all so friendly, the view is amazing and the climate is utterly perfect. Crisp mornings and evenings, perfect for sleeping, and bright, warm sunny days.
One thing to note. We travelled from London and whenever heading west jet lag always has us up at 4-5am the first days. I love a morning coffee, my wife a tea. Unfortunately the hotel has no kettles. I couldn’t believe it either. We were given finger-warm water in a thermos a couple of times but that just doesn’t cut it. I ended up buying a kettle in San Juan and all was bliss thereafter.
Good at the hotel is generally very very good, a bit pricey compared to the local area. The cafes and their breakfast (The Little Spoon in Pana, the San Juan cafe in San Juan) were probably the best food experiences overall.
Overall though Atitlan is an amazing place, I’d come back in a heartbeat just to chill and relax. Make sure you see the other villages around the Lake, all have their own identity.
