This is a novel upgrade of a classic property done by folks who have an eye for hospitality and intelligent use of resources. The lobby is spectacular and serves as a gateway to the glory of the surrounding redwood forests and the scenic country of Humboldt County. It's a jewl that is going to find even more footing in the future. P.S. The bar downstairs is another pearl. Nothing like being around master craft work both in the design of the bar and the cocktails that are prepared. Noticed a whiskey drink made with cherry smoke infusion. You don't see that every day! Oh and dogs are most welcome!!

Absolutely beautiful room; photos can't do it justice. Unique and tasteful, with a 1940s feel western noir feel. Custom-made wood touches inside my very large room were beautiful, dignified and in sync with the setting while still being modern and cool. No internet to speak of. In walking distance: an impoverished nearby town and a lumber mill that operates 24/7, causing noticeable noise and air pollution.

Such a beautiful hotel! The setting was lovely as well. The service was great, and so many thoughtful amenities! Would absolutely stay again.

Room would not get warm enough, hot water ran out in the shower and the mattress was absolutely awful, like a soft sponge. The hotel appeared clean and charming, but the experience was let down by the room.

This is such a beautiful property that is a reasonable drive to a lot of cute and interesting places in Northern California. I loved the room. However, there was hardly any staff and I found out a couple days before arriving that the restaurant was closed. There were a few times no one was working the front desk and when I called, someone from a remote location called me back. I understand how hard it is to staff service establishment, but it felt a bit like the place was abandoned.

Confirmed via email after reserving that the front desk would close at 11pm. Arrived at 10:30pm to find the hotel closed due to "new winter hours". Upon using their ring camera to contact someone, they said to look at my text messages to find instructions on how to enter the hotel. I said thanks and hung up the ring doorbell call. I attempted to use their text message instructions to enter the hotel, but the provided key code did not work to open the front door so I could not get my room key from a supposed lock box. Never was able to get through the front door. Upon calling back on the ring camera, no one answered. So I called the hotel's phone number, got an automated service, pressed the necessary numbers, but no one answered once again. So I went back to my car and my wife quickly found a hotel room up the road where they actually picked up the phone when we called them and they had someone working at the front desk to give us our room key. Upon calling the Scotia lodge again, they finally answered, but we were already up the highway towards our new hotel. We were exhausted from driving all day and were not keen to play games with getting in a hotel, so we stayed somewhere that was actually able to accommodate us. We never stayed at the Scotia lodge due to their errors, and they are still trying to charge us for the stay. Needless to say I'm getting the credit card company to give us our money back. Shady hotel all around. Skip the headache and book somewhere else.

The lobby of the hotel was beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room, cozy queen, was just that...cozy! The bed was small and kne of those memory foam type mattresses. No dresser for your clothes. There was a nice closet. Bathroom was nice but no where to put your stuff. I had to set things on the floor. No hairdryer, but they had one at the front desk. No kleenex. No air conditiining and the windows didnt have screens. They tack on a 30.00 amentities fee for the free drink at arrival, shots of bourdon and vodka, a coiple juices and 2 pieces of dark chocolate. The bar was nice when open. No restaurant but they have food at the front desk that they can microwave for you. Also, this hotel is NOT handicap accessible. Stairs to the rooms and the shower was in a claw foot tub. It served our purpose but not sure we would return.
