The score would have been 5* based on the superb dinner and great service we had at this hotel. However, the breakfast was a total disappointment. We were told it opened at 7.30 am so went down minutes after that, only to find that a coach party had been there for a while and some of the buffet was seriously depleted. Surprisingly (and the only place we experienced this) there was no hot food at all. And as supplies ran out they were not replaced. So we and 3 other non-coach-party guests had to make do with what was left. Shame as it spoilt our experience.

We have a family room here, but it's actually a whole apartment: a living room with two beds , TV, sofa, cupboards and a sleeping room with a double bed. In the living room water boiler and coffee and tea. Everything is very clean, spacious, the beds are comfortable. The bathroom is also big and clean. Towels, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, toilet - everything okay. We had here dinner, the food was very good and tasty. The service is super friendly: the two young ladies at the reception and the restaurant are really kind. The one at the reception came out to show the entrance of our room.

We are doing an Iceland round trip and our travel agency booked this for us. We had a bit low expectations coming here judging by the reviews but we were happily surprised! The staff was friendly. The room felt newly renovated and was clean and had all you needed including comfy beds and nice ecological shampoo and conditioner. No signs of rust anywhere as mentioned in other reviews. The bathroom had some smell from the water but we have experienced much worse so far during this trip and with the door closed it didn’t reach the main room. The windows opened if you felt the need to let some fresh air in. Breakfast was also nice and had everything we needed like yogurt, bread, boiled egg, some fruits, coffee and muffins but not things like bacon, scrambled eggs or waffles. If you get the same experience that we had there’s no need to worry and you will be satisfied!

Stayed one night. Attentive, friendly staff. A distance from local attractions and restaurants. Large, clean rooms. Basic breakfast served in the morning. The hot water is geothermal fed so there is a sulfur like odor when running the hot water. Run the cold water for a minute or two and the odor disappears. Fill your water bottle before you leave!

This is a great stopping point on the circle road heading towards Myvatn. Rooms and bathrooms were large and clean. Front desk staff was pleasant. We ate dinner in the dining room which was nice. Free parking and quiet rooms.

An overnight stay at Hótel Varmahlíð in a family room. The room was separate with its own entrance. Very large room with living room and beds for the kids. Separate bedroom. Decorated in old style which was very cozy. Coffee and tea making facilities. Ate ok dinner in the restaurant. Simple breakfast.

One night stay review. Smooth and friendly check inn. Large and clean, bit dated room on the third floor (elevator) quite simply furnished but adequate. Coffee/tea making facility, no safe box, no fridge. Good bathroom with good shower, some amenities are supplied. I'm surprised that nobody is mentioning the bad odeur of the water. This was a major issue here, it smelled very much like sulfur, so, like rotten eggs. Dinner was tasteful but the portions were very small. I blame it to our touroperator who probably ordered a low budget dinner and sold it to us as a full two course dinner. Staff was friendly and polite.

Ontbijt was sober.
