I recently celebrated my birthday with a Sunday night stay at The Sandhouse Hotel in Rossnowlagh. Unfortunately, my experience was far from enjoyable. While the view from our room was absolutely splendid, the food quality left much to be desired. My husband and I opted for a four-course meal, which turned out to be a major letdown. The seafood dishes were tasteless and frankly did not taste fresh. When we brought this to the attention of the Maitre d'Hotel, she informed us that we were the only ones who had complained. Despite this, she kindly removed my husband's meal from the bill. As a birthday gesture, they served me a dessert with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate, which was a nice touch. However, the chocolate fondant I received was disappointing, as if it had been a frozen cake merely microwaved. To make matters worse, both my husband and I fell ill that night. Upon checking out, we informed the staff about our illness and dissatisfaction with the food, only to be told again that no one else had reported similar issues. Overall, my birthday was not the enjoyable experience I had hoped for, marred by subpar food and subsequent illness. The only redeeming feature of our stay was the breathtaking view from our room. I hope the hotel takes these comments seriously to improve their dining experience for future guests.
