The courtyard had no walls, but was surrounded by its own homegrown vegetables: scallions, chili peppers, lettuce, bok choy, and other greens. The owner's cooking was superb, far exceeding our expectations for farmhouse meals. All the ingredients were homegrown, purely organic, resulting in a unique and flavorful taste. Every dish was delicious, satisfying, and generously portioned. We even made a special trip back to have lunch there on our second trip to Xinglong Mountain.
