The 3 stars might come as a surprise to many, including Patagonia camp but I expected more. Firstly, the positives - This is a super nicely located property with acres of forests around it. There is indeed a serene feeling that one gets checking into the property and looking out into Lago Toro. The service levels are excellent. The staff was super helpful - we had a few unconventional requests, and they did not hesitate one bit before helping us with those. Special shout outs to Sara, Claudio, Barbara, Camila, Javiera. The guides - special shout out to Cristopher. He was super engaged, very knowledgeable and you could sense he has a connection to the place. Now, why the 3 stars, in order to less to more important - Food - the food in general, barring a few dishes was underwhelming. Given what you pay for this and the overall luxury appeal, I expected a lot better. Breakfast and takeaway lunch options did not change through the 4 days we stayed there. Even the "snacks" that are laid out (on a chequered cloth, I will add) in the middle of hikes were pretty much the same. The Yurts - there is a marked difference between which location your Yurt is. For the first two nights, we were in Yurt 7 (if I remember correctly) and there is no view from the Yurt to speak of, which is quite extraordinary in a place like Torres where every turn in the road has a view. We moved to Yurt 15 (with a Jacuzzi) on the last day and that was like staying in a different property altogether. So, its a draw of luck at best as to what Yurt you are assigned. The interiors of the Yurt are cozy and housekeeping do a great job but they are still basic. Again, for that price one should expect more. For instance, even in Yurt 15 we saw some floorboards damaged giving it a run-down feel. Finally, the excursions - The camp policy is to have an excursion only if 2 or more Yurts have signed up. This inadvertently could mean that your planned excursion could be canceled if the other guests bail out for whatever reason. Now, I understand these are supposed to be 'shared excursions' but some basic ones like Base of Towers or French Valley should be offered regardless - these cannot be considered bespoke private excursions just because no other guests are opting for those on that particular day. We had 2 instances where we wanted to go for certain excursions but had to choose others because no one else had signed up for the particular ones. We saw that happening with some other guests as well. I appreciate the camp wants to ensure the weather conditions are favorable for that particular excursion and the forecasts can be fickle but we got a sense that they sometimes pushed the guests into opting for sub-optimal excursions because it fit the logistics better. Tip : Pingo Grey excursion is a walk through a forest to a small waterfall which is not as impressive. So, if you have done basic forest walks elsewhere, it is missable.
