First time in Costa Rica, and staying at Dolce Uvita literally MADE our trip. I will NEVER stay anywhere else, period. We arrived in San Jose, and I rented a car. The line for the rental took over an hour, and I mapped San Jose to Dolce Uvita; it was almost 4 hours...and it was pouring rain. I WhatsApp'd the hotel and was immediately comforted by Sylvia, who owns and runs the hotel with her husband, Fernando. She was SO wonderful and, via text, taught me what Pura Vida truly meant. Everything would be fine. But EVERYTHING took so much longer than anticipated, and the hotel asked you to check in by 5 PM; we wouldn't be there until 9 PM. Sylvia not only said just to let her know when we arrived, but she also let me know most restaurants would be closed, so we may want to stop at a larger town an hour outside Uvita for dinner. GREAT suggestion. We also forgot rain gear, but no worries; Sylvia said we could borrow theirs or suggested another place to stop along the way. From there, it only got better. Sylvia let us know the best restaurants to go to; they were ALL AMAZING! One evening we ate at their Italian restaurant...they are from Italy, it was by far the best Italian meal we had ever had. She hooked us up with a fantastic whale-watching tour, sent us to the best zip-lining place, helped me find seasick pills; honestly, you read other reviews that say you feel like you're family; it is ABSOLUTELY TRUE! We will be back, and we will stay at Dolce Uvita. Our daughter is volunteering at the local animal shelter and wants to return next year...we WILL be coming with her, and I WILL be having that stuffed ravioli again :-) Thank you, Sylvia and Fernando; you are truly one-of-a-kind. I can't imagine what my experience would have been like had we not happened to pick your hotel. To ANYONE and EVERYONE looking for hotels, don't just "trust me," I'm a therapist; I will literally diagnose you as clinically insane if you don't stay at Dolce Uvita.
