House on Chase Creek

We stayed at the House on Chase Creek last weekend. The house is exactly as in the photographs, cosy, attention to detail. It feels like your own beach house, from the pictures on the walls, to the knick-knacks, to the rocking chair on the porch, squeaky wooden staircase included (which I personally loved). Bill was a very attentive and gracious host. Without our asking him, he upgraded us to the room we had booked and we, therefore, stayed in the river view room, a real treat. In addition, he recommended places to have breakfast and dinner, all very good and close to the house. There are cups, coffee and even hot chocolate available for guests. We immediately took advantage of this and took a seat on the two red chairs on the riverbank with our two mugs of coffee. If you are looking for a break from the hectic city life, Shelter Island is the perfect place and House on Chase Creek is the perfect place to relax.

I went to the House on Chase Creek by myself for the weekend, hoping that the remote location (only accessible via ferry!) would help me focus. I was right! You get a great deal for your money here, and the proprietor Bill is friendly and helpful, even giving me a ride to the ferry on my checkout date because it was raining. The rooms are outfitted with mini fridges and the downstairs kitchen has a microwave, which was helpful for me — I didn't want to spend a fortune on dining out and was able to fit the contents of a small cooler in my fridge instead. On top of this, my bed was incredibly comfortable and my room even had a bathtub. I had a stunning view of the creek and some of its bird inhabitants, which was an added bonus for me as a birdwatcher. Highly recommend this place during the off-season — the island is quiet, but lots of places are still open and there's plenty of good outdoorsy stuff to do, on top of its being a great place for me to get away and write. I'll be back for sure!

Even for Labor Day weekend, this was way over-priced at a total of $467 per night -- a small room with hardly space for the bed, and none of the ordinary amenities like TV and Wi-Fi (apparently in all four rooms) and breakfast consisting of DIY coffee. Making contact with the owner to check in was mostly for his convenience since we had to agree ahead of time to be there when he was. Returning after our first day we found the room had not been made up and were told he had "forgotten" to tell us we needed to request it since it had been made optional with (long past) Covid. Not an experience we wish to repeat.

Boutique inn with 4 units is always welcoming and the location so unique. Beautiful sunroom offering coffee, tea, filtered water, oatmeal, coffee machine, half n half, glassware, cutlery, mugs. Classic old world Shelter Island vibe! Close to Dering Harbor and North Ferry. Walk on to ferry to visit Greenport on foot. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and the Carousel at Mitchell Park on water. Leave your car behind and $ave on ferry. Drive to almost any location on Shelter Island 10-20 minutes.

We just wrapped up a weekend stay at the house on chase creek and can’t say enough good things about it! We stayed in the Queen room and it was perfect. The value that you get for the price here is incredible - this was by far one of the most affordable places on the island during the summer months, and it was absolutely lovely. If you’re looking at photos on TripAdvisor, you should know that the beds/linens/decor of the rooms have all been modernized since whenever those were taken - the bed was super nice and comfortable with great bedding. We didn’t have a car and could walk everywhere within 10 mins (the ferry, into town, the beach, dinners, etc). Bill, the owner, was so kind and even offered to drive us to lunch our first day. If you’re thinking about staying here, do it!! you won’t regret it.

Can’t wait to go back. The House on Chase Creek was an experience that memories are made of. If you are looking for a tranquil and serene getaway, this is the place. Bill, the very knowledgeable and entertaining host, is welcoming and quick to give helpful info that will assist you in navigating the island. Our trip to Shelter Island and our stay at The House on the Creek are a definite 10 out of 10 and hopefully a trip we will make again.

Great location, we spent 3 nights. Bill was a gracious host. He knew all the best places to eat and what days they had specials. He is a long term resident of the island and was very knowledgeable and recommended different things to see. We spent 2 days hiking and it was a great place to come back to in the evening.

My sweetheart and I stayed at the House on Chase Creek in March and had such a lovely visit. The host gave us excellent recommendations for nearby local attractions as well as a little history of the island. Our room was bright, quiet, and had a beautiful view of the water which was just what we were looking for. Will definitely be coming back!

Lovely place. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Thw oerfect olace to get away for a day or two.
