Let me start by saying this is, without a doubt, the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in, not just in China but anywhere in the world! I strongly urge anyone traveling to Xiamen to avoid this hotel.
On my first day, as soon as I put my suitcase down and started unpacking, a cockroach crawled right into it. My family and I spent a frantic half-hour trying to deal with it. The next day, I went up to the fifth-floor laundry room, and a rat was brazenly strolling down the hallway. When I expressed my shock to a passing hotel housekeeper, her first response was, "It's okay, they probably just came from the pipe room to the hallway, they won't go into the guest rooms!" This tells me the hotel staff are well aware of their rodent problem! I have to ask, are there any other hotels like this anywhere in the country?
Afterward, I complained to the hotel. Initially, they seemed quite responsive, but aside from some empty words, I saw no real commitment or sincerity in solving the issue. They offered to refund me 88 RMB from my room fee. You heard that right – I paid nearly 3,000 RMB to stay in a hotel crawling with cockroaches and rats, and their consolation was an 88 RMB refund!
Since I had a flight to catch after checking out, I didn't want to waste any more time on this issue. I told them I wouldn't accept it and if they were truly apologetic, they could contact me after the holidays. But I've heard nothing since!
I won't post the photos of the rats in the hallway, but I stand by every word I've said! Here's a photo of Xiamen to show my support for Xiamen's tourism and culture. Everyone, please do visit Xiamen, just don't stay at THIS hotel!
One more thing, the room wasn't soundproof and the window handle was broken.
