Hotel Karos Spa

The pool area was great, saunas were brilliant. Our room was not so great. Smelly and we had bugs in our room. We were scared to open the window. It was boiling hot. We didn't sleep too well. The food was great.

First of all the hotel is not perfect. But, in last 9 years we have been there roughly 10-11 times. So, we like it. It's compact, quiet and comfortable for a vacation with children. City of Zalakaros is small and very nice place in a beautiful nature. They are organizing many programs during the whole year, to feel you better and enjoy your holiday there. You will find activities in the surrounding by walk or by bike. Balaton is just a short trip by car.

Wonderful place, with excellent wellness, and really friendly and very helpful staff. The kitchen is excellent, everyone will find tasty food for themself. (also proper for various diets) For sure we will go back again with friends and family... Perfect place to spend with family and friends.

I am deeply dissapointed, since there was no communication about the wellness part being under renowation (season preparation), still took the full season price. On the other side, there was somekind of "college party" going on in the hotel, which was done accordingly to the law as they said , since they have ended it at 2 am. There is no problem with that. The problem started at 3 am at the students rooms, which was the "after party", so they were yelling and partying 'till 7 am while others would like to rest. This was also communicated and reported to the reception, in their words "Nothing can be done, if the guest is loud in there room." It was 3 am and went on untill 7 am , there were babies sleeping next to them, for crying out loud! So if you want to go to their hotel, please be advised, that they are not that much guest oriented, and communicative! I would reconsider, if only I had read the reviews!

Our experience was not that bad but - the Spa Premium Suite did not include anything, I mean no coffee machine, not even an electric kettle, - in the restaurant, rather plain dishes were performed from exquisite ingredients so the chef is obviously not the best of all, but - most importantly, hardly any of the employees were smiling - except of the very kind young lady bartender one of the older lady waiters in the restaurant and the chambermaids. This hotel is supposed to be one of the top notch hotels in Zalakaros, besides Radisson Park Inn, yet it's very far from that level. Staff was neutral when we checked-in, we didn't feel that we were welcome at all, we didn't even get a single smile from any of the staff members during our stay, they barely even wanted to greet us back. The food was very disappointing, I can say terrible. We've stayed countless times at wellness hotels in Hungary in thermal towns, yet had never encountered such unfriendly - not rude, just totally careless - staff, so bad, tasteless food with such few choices, at every other hotels there were at least 4-5 main courses which of at least some were for sure to everyone's likeing. Meanwhile here they obviously used reminder food from breakfast (such as ham, bacon), etc. Breakfast was equally super limited and disappointing. They should have a egg-station, where warm egg dishes are frwshly made. There were two new super high tech robots (a server at the bar, and another at the lobby, both out of order, so we couldn't even find out the purpose/ function of the latter one). Cleanliness was spotless, besides that there was nothing special in the room, SPA was absolutely great. But that's it about the good points. There was no any amenities in our room, when we asked for a shower cap at the reception, the receptionist simply replied they didn't have any, no further words, such as "we are so sorry Sir, we just ran out" or anything like that.

This hotel is huge, split in 2 main buildings that communicate. Check-in experience was good, yet our room was ready at 4pm..quite late i would say. We had to wait to get into our room. Once there we could not find 1 bottle of water, we had to order..I don’t know what experience this hotel had with other guests, but not to have a bottle of water in an apartment with 4 guests? Towels were changed every 3rd day in the room. The wellness towels were not towels, but some textiles. The pools were nice, one recently renovated, sauna center was nice too. Nice playground and kids programs too. Food was average.
