[Nepal] Kathmandu Durbar Square

[Nepal] Kathmandu Durbar Square

Since my accommodations were not far from Kathmandu Durbar Square, I inquired about the route after dinner and walked directly there. Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as "Basantapur Durbar Square," is located in the southern part of Kathmandu's city center and is one of Nepal's historical and cultural symbols. Originally built over 1,300 years ago during the Licchavi dynasty, and subsequently expanded by the Malla and Shah dynasties, the square consists of three open spaces and over 50 ancient buildings and monuments. The most famous building in the square is Hanuman Dhoka. In Nepali, "Durbar" means "royal palace." Historically, Nepalese kings built religious temples around the palace square, and different dynasties continued to add new structures, creating a rich cultural atmosphere and a profound sense of history. The complex within the square includes Kasthamandap, Ashok Binayak Temple, and Kumari Ghar, most of which were built between the 16th and 19th centuries, showcasing the ancient architectural style of the Malla dynasty. Durbar Square at night is filled with a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere. People stroll leisurely in twos and threes, and the ancient temples intertwine with modern lights, forming a captivating scene. I remember the devastating Nepal earthquake of April 25, 2015, which caused severe damage to Durbar Square, destroying many buildings. Today, they have been largely restored. 📝Tips: The entrance fee for Durbar Square is NPR 1,000 (approximately GBP 5.80). Guided tours are also popular and cost NPR 1,000 for 2.5 hours. Annapurna Base camp Trek / 2024-2025

Annapurna Base camp Trek / 2024-2025

One of the most well-known trekking routes in Nepal is the ABC trek, which takes place at Annapurna Base Camp. A spectacular trip through a diverse landscape and culture, it features charming Gurung settlements, terraced fields, and a vast range of flora and fauna. The journey to Mt. Annapurna's base camp, which is located at an elevation of 4130m/13549ft and is the world's tenth-highest mountain at 8091m, is one of the top treks in Nepal. In addition, Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), which the Nepalese adore for its singular beauty, is how we get to our objective. The Annapurna Base Camp trekking package is a favorite among a variety of outdoor enthusiasts, including solitary female tourists and hikers who are traveling in groups. This is due to the well-planned schedule.

Hilton Kathmandu, Nepal

Hilton Kathmandu, Nepal

Hilton Kathmandu, Nepal, a new hotel that opened in March The first night in Nepal, we stayed at a local hotel, which was small and damp, and the overall experience was poor, so we changed hotels the next day. I saw that there are 3 Marriott hotels in this city, Aloft, Marriott, and Fairfield Inn, but the prices were not ideal, then I found the Hilton that could be redeemed for 30,000 points, so I checked in. The hotel manager said that they just opened in June, and they have only received less than 20 diamond members in the 90 days since opening. The hotel is very good for Nepal, after all, there are ruins and old buildings everywhere. The only downside is that the front desk did not offer an upgrade, and since our family needed two rooms together, I did not ask for an upgrade. The basic room is not large by Hilton standards in China or North America, but compared to other local hotels in Kathmandu, it is a large room. The lounge is nice, and the happy hour can be eaten as dinner, with all kinds of wine. There is also a roof bar, but unfortunately, it was raining, so we didn't go. We had an early flight the next day, so we didn't have breakfast, but the service attitude of the whole hotel was very good.

Trishuli River 🛶🇳🇵 Kathmandu

Trishuli River 🛶🇳🇵 Kathmandu

Beautiful scenery, steady rapids and a perfect spot for beginner rafters. The Trishuli River cuts through the mountains with it's emerald green water. The scenery changes throughout the time on the boat from steep rocky mountains to flatter farmland. The rapids on the river were fun, manageable between even our small boatfull and quick in short bursts. Our Guide was very experienced and gave us chances to swim where it was safer and spoke about his country with pride throughout. I'd recommend this rafting trip to groups of friends or those that are new to rafting and want to see what the fuss is about. I got hooked when in Montana and this was my scenic choice of spots to get my wife and best friend in on the action.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square

One of the most special attractions in Kathmandu is the Durbar Square which is walking distance from the Thamel district. It costs 50rmb to enter and is open from 10am to 9pm Inside the square, there are lots of shops, temples and restaurants. The ambiance is very busy as people are working in there but you can also find quiet places to relax and reflect. I would recommend spending 2-3 hours there walking around the street. The special thing about the square is that they provide you with a map that shows the points of interest and the history of the square too
