Exploring an exotic ‘ecosystem’!

Despite the freezing weather, with the icy wind biting at every inch of my exposed skin, I can say that I had an amazing time at Asahiyama Zoo! I cannot recommend this zoo enough, from its wide variety of enclosures to the insightful information that the zookeepers had shared, especially during the Penguin Feeding Time. Sadly, me and my family had missed the famed Penguin Walk, which is the talk of the town and the only reason that we had ventured to the zoo in the first place. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of fun that I had even without watching cute penguins scuttling around with their webbed feet. Definitely a must-go if you were to visit Asahikawa!

Penguins catwalk show

This is Asahiyama zoo located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido prefecture. There are buses to the zoo from Asahikawa station and it takes approximately 45 minutes to reach. The marching event are held twice daily at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m during December till around mid-March when the snow starts to melt. The penguins are so cute! Taking advantage of the children's summer vacation, we planned to escape Tokyo and go to Asahikawa to avoid the heat. It is a vibrant winter city with snow sculptures, penguins and lots of shopping points too! It was the Asahiyama Zoo experience which was the most memorable highlight during this trip. it was so rare to see the penguins walking and they were so cute! Despite it was so cold, We all liked the weather too!
