The multi-course lunch was beautifully presented, while the service was polished, attentive and warm without feeling overly formal. In Phuket, I loved starting my mornings at Kata Beach before driving to Promthep Cape for one of the best sunsets I've ever seen. Wandering through Old Phuket Town was another highlight, with its colorful streets, cozy cafés, and relaxed atmosphere. A day trip to the Phi Phi Islands easily became one of my favorite memories. Bali, on the other hand, felt more diverse. I spent peaceful mornings exploring the rice terraces around Ubud, watched the sunset at Uluwatu Temple, relaxed on the beaches of Nusa Dua, and ended my evenings enjoying seafood at Jimbaran Bay. Every area had its own unique vibe. If you're looking for beautiful beaches, island hopping, and a laid-back holiday, I'd choose Phuket. During this six-day trip, I experienced peaceful rice terraces, lively beach towns, dramatic clifftop temples, turquoise island views and some unforgettable Balinese food. Every area had a completely different atmosphere, which made the journey feel exciting without being rushed. I started in Ubud, where the mornings were cooler and quieter. Tegallalang Rice Terrace was especially beautiful early in the day, before the larger crowds arrived. I also explored the Sacred Monkey Forest and visited Tirta Empul, a traditional water temple surrounded by peaceful gardens and stone carvings. When visiting temples, remember to dress respectfully and bring or rent a sarong. The next part of the trip was spent around Canggu and Seminyak. This area was perfect for café hopping, boutique shopping and relaxed beach evenings. Batu Bolong and Echo Beach had a laid-back surfing atmosphere, while Seminyak offered more restaurants, shops and stylish places to stay. Watching the sunset with a coconut or iced coffee was one of the simplest but most memorable parts of the trip. For dramatic scenery, Uluwatu and Jimbaran were highlights. Uluwatu Temple sits above the ocean on towering cliffs, and the sunset views were incredible. The Kecak fire dance added a cultural experience to the evening. Afterwards, a seafood dinner beside Jimbaran Beach was the perfect way to end the day. I also took an early boat to Nusa Penida. Kelingking Beach was the most iconic viewpoint, but Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong and Crystal Bay were also worth visiting. By the way, just a heads-up: in Bali, a service charge and tax are typically included right on your bill. 1. Sinaloa Bali (Legian area, between Kuta and Seminyak, Google Maps rating 4.6) - photos 2 and 3 We ended up having dinner here 3 times during our vacation! The interior is styled after vintage colonial Mexico, serving up a great variety of classic and signature cocktails alongside Mexican and Cuban street food. The place is quite small, so it's best to book in advance if you can. In the evenings, there's live music on the second floor, and they frequently run cocktail promos like 50% off all cocktails or 2-for-1 Margaritas. The absolute best drink here is the Dragonfruit Margarita—we definitely recommend giving it a try!) The interior is designed in a 1920s style with marble finishes, high vaulted ceilings, and panoramic ocean-view windows (if you want a table with a view, it's best to reserve in advance). The menu features exquisite steaks, a variety of seafood and delicacies, as well as high-end desserts. In addition, The Plantation Grill offers an extensive selection of wines and cocktails. As a complimentary treat, guests are served salted butter with a pretzel—it is simply delicious! The jazz music and an opera singer who makes appearances at various times, strolling among the tables, will definitely leave an unforgettable impression on you (and it didn't feel intrusive at all).

This 4-day journey showed me that Indonesia is not only about famous islands. Beyond Bali, there are stories waiting to be discovered. 🇮🇩 Day 1 — Discovering the Soul of Surabaya: The City of Heroes My first day began by exploring the historical heart of Surabaya. 🏛️ Tugu Pahlawan & November 10th Museum Surabaya is known as the “City of Heroes”, and this monument represents the courage and spirit behind that name. Walking around this area, I could feel how deeply history is connected with the city’s identity. 🚢 Monumen Kapal Selam (Monkasel) A unique attraction where visitors can explore an actual submarine in the middle of the city. It was sitting at a small café overlooking endless rice terraces, enjoying a cup of Balinese coffee while watching the sunset paint the sky in soft orange and pink. It reminded me that sometimes the best travel memories come from simply slowing down. Of course, Bali has plenty to explore. I wandered through Ubud's lush greenery, admired the dramatic cliffs at Uluwatu, watched the ocean sparkle at Nusa Dua, and experienced one of the most magical sunsets at Tanah Lot. Every corner of the island offered a different atmosphere, yet somehow they all shared the same peaceful energy. One thing I really appreciated was how easy Bali is for travellers. We take our time exploring different neighbourhoods, popping into cafés that catch our eye and returning to the ones we genuinely enjoy. I think that's also given us a better glimpse of what everyday life in JB feels like. You'll notice that many cafés aren't right in the city centre. Some are tucked away in residential areas, others sit inside converted shophouses or quiet corners that you'd probably never come across unless someone recommended them. That's usually where we've had some of our favourite finds. "Fass Glass House" is a boutique homestay that brings the ultimate Bali vacation vibe right into your room. For this trip, we stayed in the [Heather] room. This was the fourth night of our Taiwan road trip, and tonight we're staying at . Although the room is on the smaller side, it is fully equipped. It has a TV, a fridge, and a bathtub—plus, there's absolutely no annoying smell of smoke. Every corner shown in the homestay's photos is absolutely stunning. I was instantly captivated the moment I scrolled past them! 😆 But after actually checking in, I discovered... the room layout is actually quite quirky! First of all, there are no tables or chairs in the room. So, if you want to watch TV, you have to sit inside the bathtub to watch! Additionally, the bathtub is placed right in an open space outside the bathroom. It's definitely a bit blush-inducing if you want to take a bath, and if you aren't careful, you could end up soaking the entire floor. That being said, the bed itself is super comfortable and easy to sleep in. However, since it's an older building, it's hard to avoid a few small bugs. I recommend giving the bedsheets and blankets a quick check before going to sleep for peace of mind. 🤏 The next morning, the feeling of the sunlight pouring directly into the room was incredibly comforting! We enjoyed a brief stay here, soaking up a moment of tranquility before continuing to embrace the uniquely slow-paced lifestyle of Hualien! But after just a few days, we realized that it was the hotel choice that had the biggest impact on our vacation experience. Some decisions turned out to be so bad that if we were to fly to Bali again, we would do everything differently. I'm sharing the mistakes that helped us avoid ruining the rest of our trip. ❤️ ❌ Mistake #1: Staying in one area for the entire vacation Before the trip, Bali seemed like a small island. On the map, everything looked very close. But in reality, due to traffic, even a short trip can take over an hour. At some point, we realized we were wasting too much time just on the road. 💡 If your vacation lasts 10-14 days, it's better to split it between two or three areas. We'd choose exactly the same option again: Ubud for the nature, Nusa Dua for the beaches, and Uluwatu for the sunsets. ❌ Mistake #2. Looking only at the distance to the beach One of our hotels was literally right next to the sea. At least that's what the map showed. In reality, the walk to the beach took almost half an hour: part of the way passed through other hotels, and then we had to descend a long flight of stairs. After our first visit, we started researching actual walking routes in advance, not just distances on the map. 💡 Be sure to look at guest reviews and route photos. ❌ Mistake #3. Thinking that five stars are always better Before our trip, we were convinced that the higher the hotel category, the better the vacation. But what we remember most weren't the most expensive resorts. It was the small boutique hotels that turned out to be the most cozy. There, the staff remembered guests by name, the grounds were quiet, and the atmosphere was much more homely. After that, we started choosing not the number of stars, but the real experiences of people. ❌ Mistake #4. Not exploring the surrounding area One of our hotels turned out to be beautiful inside. But in the evening, it turned out there was practically nothing nearby. No cafes. No shops. No places to just go for a walk. In another area, the situation was the opposite – too noisy and crowded. That's when we realized how important it is to imagine in advance what kind of vacation you want. 💡 If you like peace and quiet, choose quiet areas. If you want walks and restaurants, look for accommodations closer to the tourist streets. ❌ Mistake #5. Choosing a hotel solely because of the pool Before the trip, we thought a beautiful infinity pool was the most important thing. But after just a couple of days, it became clear that we were spending most of our time outside the hotel. We explored the island, driving along beaches, waterfalls, and rice terraces. In the end, the spectacular pool turned out to be far from the most important part of the vacation.
