One of my favourite little escapes from Sydney was Canyonleigh Retreat in the Southern Highlands. What I loved about this place wasn't just the room — it was how peaceful the whole property felt. 🌅 Sunset from the balcony This was probably my favourite part of the stay. In the evening I could just sit outside on the balcony and watch the sky slowly change colour over the countryside. No need to drive anywhere to find a sunset spot — it was literally right outside the room. After living in Sydney, sometimes having nothing around you except trees, open space and a sunset is exactly what you need. 🥾 A private forest walk This was another surprise. The retreat sits on a huge property with its own native forest, and there's a 6.5 km hiking trail you can explore. We did the forest loop and it really felt like we had the bush to ourselves. It's not a manicured tourist attraction — you're walking along quiet tracks surrounded by Australian bushland. For someone like me who loves walking and hiking, having a trail right where I'm staying is a huge bonus. 💜 The gardens Around the accommodation there are beautiful gardens as well. I especially loved all the lavender — it made the property look so pretty. Canyonleigh is also a working eco-retreat, with its own vegetable and market gardens and seasonal produce grown on the property. 🛏️ The stay The accommodation itself was comfortable and peaceful, but I think the surroundings are what make Canyonleigh Retreat special. Wake up surrounded by nature, go for a walk through the forest, wander around the gardens and then come back to the balcony for sunset. Chose the 2026 Canberra Floriade Flower Festival, Mt Ainslie Lookout & Bowral Spring Day Tour based on Trip.com's reliable recommendations, and I'm glad I did! My experience was made particularly enjoyable thanks to Cherry, who provided excellent service throughout the day. One practical tip I picked up: if you love soaking up scenery, select a seat on the left side of the bus next time. Zen Oasis is tucked away near Berrima, and its food is a lovely surprise. It is best known for its Asian vegetarian and vegan cuisine, especially the variety of yum cha dishes. The colourful dumplings and steamed buns caught our eye straight away, and we also enjoyed the crispy rolls, a warming soup, sizzling noodles and a generous mushroom and vegetable dish. There was plenty to choose from, with different flavours and textures across the meal. The setting is another reason to visit. The restaurant feels peaceful and secluded, and you can stroll through the gardens and around the ornamental lake after lunch. It makes the meal feel like a little outing in the Southern Highlands. Zen Oasis is at 230 Medway Road, Medway, near Berrima. It is a great choice for a relaxed weekend lunch, whether you are vegetarian or simply curious to try something different. Book ahead and allow time to explore the grounds.

My trip to Bowral this time revolved around two main goals: seeing the tulips and eating at Gumnut Patisserie. 🌷 Tulip Time I arrived right in time for Bowral's tulip season, and the whole town was instantly brimming with spring vibes. If I were to choose an airline without considering the price, it would be Philippine Airlines. But take note, there are times that they are cheaper with all other airlines. Thanks to Trip.com, you can easily compare prices with all other airline. Not a first timer with PAL but I just want to feature what I like with PAL. I like PAL because theey allow you to change seat upon online check-in for FREE! Yes, it is free! I did not expect it since with other airlines, they assign you with a seat and that is final! When you want to change it, there's a price for that. But with PAL, it is free. Another thing is that, they will give you snacks---a coffee or tea, water and cookies. Here's more, they have bigger seat dimension that is more comfortable.

We visited Centennial Vineyards twice on our four day trip to the Southern Highlands. The cellar door has a wine tasting of 10 x wines that you can choose from the list for $5. We went twice with different friends and was able to go in without a booking. Next door was the restaurant which we had lunch at. The food was quite good, and we got a table next to the fireplace. the building and surrounds are beautiful.
