Chongzuo Taiping Ancient City
Chongzuo Taiping Ancient City is a historic cultural city located in Taiping Subdistrict, Jiangzhou District, Chongzuo City, Guangxi, with a history of over 1,000 years. The ancient city existed during the Taiping Xingguo period of Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty (976-984), and was then known as Zuojiangdao Taiping Village. Later, the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties all established residences here. The architecture of Taiping Ancient City features Lingnan style and is one of the best-preserved Ming Dynasty stone cities in Guangxi.
The walls of Taiping Ancient City were built in the fifth year of the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1372). At that time, the walls were made of earth, 2 zhang 1 chi high, 1 zhang 1 chi thick, and 624 zhang in circumference, with five city gates: East "Chang'an", South "Zhen'an", Small West "Yuan'an", Large West "Zhenbian", and North "Gongchen". Unfortunately, in the sixth year of the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, the Zuojiang River flooded and collapsed more than 400 zhang of the city walls. Later, the ancient city was demolished and leveled, and the bricks and stones were used to pave the streets. In recent years, Chongzuo City has rebuilt the ancient city on the site of the ancient city, restored and expanded the inner river, repaired the ancient city walls, and recreated the historical appearance of the ancient city around the themes of Luoyue culture, Zhuang culture, water culture, and sugar culture.
