Northern Dynasties Archaeological Museum
The Northern Dynasties Archaeological Museum is located in Ci County, Hebei Province, and is the only research center in China dedicated to the culture of the Northern Dynasties. The museum covers a building area of 12,700 square meters and an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters. It is designed and built around the theme of Northern Dynasties culture, incorporating the chevron-shaped elements derived from the murals and grottoes of the period into the main architecture, highlighting the historical atmosphere of the Northern Dynasties.
The museum is divided into three exhibition halls named 'Magnificent Imperial Capital,' 'Vast Ceremonial Rites,' and 'Boundless Civilization,' along with a special exhibition hall. It houses over 5,000 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, most of which were unearthed from the Northern Dynasties tomb clusters within Ci County. These artifacts showcase decades of archaeological achievements in Ci County during the Northern Dynasties, including precious cultural relics such as pottery figurines, porcelain, and murals from the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi periods.
The ancient city of a thousand years—Handan
Handan is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province, located in the southern part of Hebei Province. It is a national historical and cultural city, an excellent tourism city in China, a national garden city, a national model city for supporting the military, and the capital of Chinese idiomatic expressions. As of July 2023, Handan administers 6 districts, 11 counties, and 1 county-level city. Some introductions are as follows:
- Historical Culture: Handan is an ancient city with a history of nearly three thousand years and was the capital of the State of Zhao during the Warring States period. It is the birthplace and growth place of Qin Shi Huang, and also the site of the story 'Learning to Walk in Handan' from the Warring States period.
- Tourism Resources: Handan boasts numerous scenic spots, such as Huiche Alley, Xuebu Bridge, and Congtai Park. Among them, the Wahuang Palace in She County is known as the 'Ancestral Temple of China' and is the largest and earliest ancient building dedicated to the worship of the ancient goddess Nüwa in China.

Inheriting from the Qin and Han Dynasties, and initiating the Sui and Tang Dynasties | Hebei Cixian Northern Dynasties Archaeological Museum
【The Autumn of Chaos·Northern Dynasties·Inheriting from the Qin and Han Dynasties, Initiating the Sui and Tang Dynasties】There are two periods of division and chaos in Chinese history, one is the Southern and Northern Dynasties, and the other is the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. The Northern and Southern Dynasties are divided into the Southern Dynasties and the Northern Dynasties (Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Northern Zhou), as the name suggests, the Northern Dynasties were mainly located in the northern part of China, lasting for more than 200 years. A large number of Eastern Wei and Northern Qi tomb groups have been found in Linzhang County and Cixian County in Hebei today. Among them, the most abundant cultural relics were unearthed from the tombs of Princess Ruru and the Wan Zhang large tomb (presumed to be the tomb of Emperor Gao Yang of the Northern Qi) excavated in Cixian County.
From the Ye City Archaeological Museum in Linzhang County to Cixian County to visit the Northern Dynasties Archaeological Museum, the distance between the two is not far. This museum mainly collects pottery figurines, murals, gold and silverware, Wei stele tomb inscriptions and other collections excavated from the Northern Dynasties tomb group in Cixian County. The museum is large and quite imposing, but the collections inside are too single and there are not many highlights. The main ones are various pottery figurines unearthed from Gao Yang's tomb (Wan Zhang's large tomb), known as 'small terracotta warriors', and the gold ornaments (the treasure of the museum) unearthed from Princess Ruru's tomb, which are very small and extremely beautiful (Figure 9). Two Roman gold coins are also the treasures of the museum. There is also a mural hall that is not open, which is a replica of the murals of the Wan Zhang large tomb, restored at a 1:1 ratio, which is the pinnacle of the Northern Dynasties murals, and the original is now collected in the Hebei Museum. It's a bit of a stretch for this museum to call itself the 'Northern Dynasties Archaeological Museum'.
Tips1:
Gold openwork inlaid flower vine flying sky ornament - the treasure of the museum, unearthed from Princess Ruru's tomb, is a decoration on Princess Ruru's hat. On the lower right is a flying sky figure, and on the upper left is a lotus child figure, which is extremely exquisite.
Byzantine gold coins (two) - the treasure of the museum, unearthed from Princess Ruru's tomb, are physical evidence of the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi's interaction with the West via the Rouran. One of the gold coins has a half-length portrait of Byzantine King Anastasius I on the front, and the other is Justin I, with the Victory Goddess on the back.
These two gold coins indirectly illustrate the important role of Cixian County on the ancient Silk Road. At that time, Cixian County, which was close to Ye City, was an important node on the Silk Road. From here, it passed through Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places, along the Silk Road, all the way to ancient Rome. 1500 years ago, two gold coins traveled thousands of miles from the Mediterranean to Hebei, which is a miracle created by the Silk Road.
Tips2:
The 52-meter-long corridor mural of Emperor Gao Yang of the Northern Qi Dynasty (550–559) in Wuning Mausoleum (Zhangwan) is the most exquisite Northern Dynasties mural discovered so far, including the emperor's exclusive Lu Bu ceremonial team, auspicious birds and beasts, flowing clouds and lotus flowers, etc. The Zhangwan mural is the highest level of Northern Dynasties painting art. Archaeologists cut it off completely and it is now in the Hebei Museum. It is a national first-class cultural relic and one of the top ten treasures of the Hebei Museum. The Northern Dynasties Archaeological Museum displays a complete replica.
Handan Fantawild Oriental Legend Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
It seems that the visitor flow at Handan Fantawild is not less than that at Universal Studios
📝Hebei part94📝
🖼️🖼️🖼️🖼️
Just finished visiting the Yecheng Museum at 5:30 PM, and it seems a bit early to go back to the hotel to sleep. While I was struggling with whether to go somewhere else to see the night view, I saw the big billboard of Handan Fantawild. The night ticket was 159, so I decided to go for a walk.
🎢🎢🎢🎢
During the holidays, the crowd is extraordinarily large. I thought there would be fewer people at night, but it turned out there were even more😂. The queue time for all the major mechanical rides started at 2 hours, and I was too lazy to queue, so I went to watch the performances, which relatively did not require queuing. The final tally for the evening was watching 'Jiuzhou Divine Charm', 'Huangliang Dream', and 'Crazy Idioms', and then I didn't get to play any rides😂.
📷📷📷📷
The rest of the time was spent walking around the park and taking photos. The night view was okay, but it was much smaller than I imagined. Seeing the large and beautiful lanterns at the gate, I thought the inside would be the same, but there wasn't much inside😂. Only the area near the south gate and Tongque Street was brilliantly lit, probably less than one-fifth of the entire park area. Other places had no lights and didn't seem to be specially designed for night tours. Also, the bubble rain was quite beautiful, giving a feeling of snowfall.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
If you want to go on rides, it's better to go early in the morning. The quality of the amusement facilities themselves is quite good, and they are very suitable for children, quite educational and fun. Overall, I am personally satisfied with the experience, but if you have more expectations than described above, I would advise you to consider carefully, especially during holidays and night sessions😂.

Wahuang Palace Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Under the spring temple fair, the Wa Huang Palace is crowded with people
Climbing to the top of Wa Huang Pavilion, one can experience the magic of the 'living building hanging temple'.
Deep in the Taihang Mountains, surrounded by mountains and water, there is an ancient relic hanging on almost vertical cliffs by several iron chains. It seems to be teetering, but in fact, it has stood for a thousand years. This is the Wa Huang Palace.
With the arrival of the rejuvenating spring season, Wa Huang Palace also welcomes its annual grand temple fair. Amidst the greenery and the blooming flowers, the sound of gongs and drums fills the air. The temple fair activities start from the first day of March and continue until the fifteenth. On the first day of March, Wa Huang Palace is packed with people and the incense is strong. This day is like a festival. In addition to local societies from Xie County, people who worship Mazu from surrounding areas including Changzhi, Yuci, and even Zhangzhou and Xiamen also come to Wa Huang Palace to participate in the Shangshe festival. This large-scale worship of the goddess Nüwa is also a traditional intangible cultural heritage.
Following the Shangshe procession up the mountain, the green branches are adorned with red ribbons, which are the hopes left by each person who climbs the mountain to pray for blessings.
Upon reaching the top of Wa Huang Palace, we can see Wa Huang Pavilion. The pavilion was built during the Northern Qi dynasty and is the main structure of Wa Huang Palace. The entire building hangs on the cliff, supported only by nine iron chains connected to the cliff face. The columns of the first floor are deeply embedded in the mountain cliff, ensuring a solid foundation; there is a gap between the second-floor pavilion and the mountain cliff; the third-floor pavilion is connected to the mountain cliff by iron chains. When the building encounters external forces, the foundation becomes unstable, the building shakes, and the nine iron chains immediately tense up, stabilizing the building. Therefore, it is also known as the 'living building hanging temple'.
Wa Huang Pavilion has withstood countless geological disasters and remains standing, a testament to the superb and bold architectural skills that bear witness to the resilience and heritage of Chinese civilization.

Handan
Handan is a big city, which existed more than 3100 years ago.
During the Warring States Period (403 BC - 222 BC), it was the capital of the Zhao State, lasting for as long as 158 years.
Handan is also quite impressive in that it has given birth to nearly 1600 idioms, making it the true 'Capital of Idioms' in China.
So, the first thing to do when you get to Handan is to learn, learn, and learn again. If you don't learn, you might not be able to walk, dream, or even dress.
Such important things, we must note down:
1⃣📌Dream: When in Handan, it doesn't matter if you don't have a yellow beam, dreaming is a must. Otherwise, the trip would be in vain.
2⃣📌Learn to walk: In Handan, if you don't learn to walk, you're done for. The road is long and the horse is strong, walking depends on learning. If you don't learn, you're done for.
3⃣📌Learn to dress: In Handan, you have to learn to dress. If you don't wear Hu clothes, how can you rise? Wearing Hu clothes, eating Hu meals, speaking Hu language, only when you have mastered the 'Three Hus', can you ascend to the Western Paradise. If you can't master it, you're really done for!

Handan, Hebei — The Museum of Cizhou Kiln in China
I took photos of cultural relics at the Museum of Cizhou Kiln in China
Admission: Free with ID card
Time: Closed on Mondays. Open from 9:00 to 11:00 in the morning and from 14:00 to 17:00 in the afternoon from Tuesday to Sunday
The Museum of Cizhou Kiln, located in Ci County, Handan City, Hebei Province, had a collection of 14,000 cultural relics as of August 2019, including 52 sets of first-grade relics, 96 sets of second-grade relics, and 1,899 sets of third-grade relics. In 2007, the museum was rated as a national AAA tourist attraction, and in 2009, it was rated as a national second-grade museum.
Cizhou Kiln is a huge folk kiln system in northern China, one of the four ancient porcelain kilns in Hebei, with a very distinctive folk kiln feature, occupying an important position in the history of Chinese ceramics development.
The history of Cizhou Kiln production is long, starting from the Northern Dynasties, flourishing during the Sui, Tang, Song, Jin, and Yuan periods, and continuing through the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present. Its central kiln site is located in Ci County, Handan City, and within the Fengfeng area at the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains, along the Zhang River and Fuyang River basins, all of which belonged to Cizhou in ancient times, hence the name. So far, 17 ancient kiln sites such as Guantai, Yezi, Dong'aikou, and Shenjiazhuang have been discovered. The decorative art of Cizhou Kiln porcelain is rich and colorful, using a variety of techniques such as scratching, carving, picking, stamping, painting, and colored glazes on the white slip to decorate the porcelain. Especially, Cizhou Kiln craftsmen applied traditional Chinese painting techniques directly to porcelain painting, creating the decorative masterpiece of Cizhou Kiln - white ground with black flowers, presenting an artistic effect of black and white contrast and strong contrast. With a very free, bold, and rough painting style, it reflects the folk customs and folklore of the time, which was well received by the general public, thus forming a decorative language and style unique to the Cizhou Kiln with national characteristics. It also marks the gradual completion of the transition of Chinese porcelain from body decoration to color decoration, laying a solid foundation for the development of blue and white porcelain and polychrome porcelain in the Ming dynasty.
