If you're not paying close attention, it's easy to miss autumn in Canberra. It wasn't until I strolled past Lake Burley Griffin, near the National Library of Australia, that I realized the autumn foliage around here is already absolutely stunning. The most fascinating part is that there isn't a designated maple-viewing forest. Instead, the autumn leaves are simply scattered along the lakefront, across the lawns, and bordering the streets. Some trees have turned a deep, vibrant red, others are lingering in golden yellow, and quite a few are still holding onto their green. This blend of different hues actually creates much more depth than a monotonous sweep of entirely red foliage. The lake setting makes these colors pop even more. The crimson, golden, and emerald trees cast their reflections on Lake Burley Griffin. Framed by an expansive sky in the distance and free of overly manicured landscapes, the whole scene offers an incredibly soothing sense of space. I think there's something genuinely special about the autumn leaves in Canberra: It's not the kind of attraction you have to go out of your way just to snap a "check-in" photo. You might just be taking a leisurely walk by the water or passing by the National Library, and suddenly, you'll notice the surrounding trees have changed their coats. This feeling of "stumbling upon autumn" is actually my favorite part. If you want to catch the autumn vibes in Canberra, I highly recommend this area. There's no need to plan a complicated itinerary. Just take a stroll along the lake and pause whenever a view catches your eye. Sometimes, the best travel itinerary is no itinerary at all. 🍂 Location | Lake Burley Griffin・Near the National Library of Australia 📅 Season | Autumn, around early April 🚶 Experience | Take a lakeside stroll and soak in both the autumn foliage and the waterfront views

The Truffle Farm was one of the highlights of my Canberra trip. It was easy to find using Google Maps, and the drive from Canberra city took only about 20–25 minutes, making it a perfect half-day excursion. The farm is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful countryside and oak trees. Even if you don't join the truffle hunt, it's still worth visiting. The staff were welcoming and happy to explain the fresh truffles and the different products they make. My favourite purchases were the Truffle Gin and Truffle Vodka. At A$90 per bottle, I thought they were excellent value for a premium local product with a distinctive truffle flavour. I also highly recommend the truffle cheese (A$35), which was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. The shop offers a great range of gourmet products, and the modern tasting room is spacious and comfortable with beautiful views across the farm. It's a lovely place to relax, browse, and enjoy the countryside. If you're visiting Canberra in winter, I definitely recommend adding The Truffle Farm to your itinerary. The drive is easy, the scenery is beautiful, and it's a unique local experience. Location: 23 Mount Majura Road, Majura ACT 2609 (about a 20–25 minute drive from Canberra CBD). Opening Hours: Generally open Friday to Sunday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm during the winter truffle season (May–September). It's best to check their website before visiting, as seasonal hours and tours may vary.

【Australia Autumn Travel Recommendations】 🌟Canberra🌟 Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Autumn in Canberra is always quite "showy." As the season deepens into late autumn, the warm tones of red, orange, and yellow paint the forests around Lake Burley Griffin in rich, vivid colors that seem to melt into one another. In the early morning, the mist is hazy, dotted with hot air balloons rising into the sky, creating a stunning impressionist painting. You can cycle along the lake or climb the botanical gardens and hills on the outskirts of the city to enjoy the city skyline and the colorful forest at sunset. Looking for a more unique autumn experience? Then book a Floating Sauna, where you can leap from the warm sauna into the cool lake water—this "fire and ice" healing experience will definitely be unforgettable! 📷: Tourism Australia / VisitCanberra / Sal Witchalls / Kannika Afonso / Anne Stroud / Vishal Pandey / Grant O’Loughlan

With the opening of the new hall, I finally found the time to visit the Australian War Memorial. I came here once a long time ago, but it didn't leave much of an impression. It’s not your typical museum focused solely on warfare; rather, it’s a space that helps you understand how Australia remembers its past. The first thing you see is the solemn memorial avenue leading up to the building, flanked by walls engraved with countless names. Behind these names are not just soldiers on a battlefield, but families and entire lifetimes. Standing there, it's hard to view history simply as a series of dates and battles in a textbook. Above all, it represents a massive toll paid by everyday people. The memorial houses a vast collection of war-related artifacts, including weapons, uniforms, and personal items left behind by the troops. What leaves the deepest impression is often not the massive military hardware, but the subtle, personal touches. A letter sent home, a photograph, or an everyday item—they all serve as a reminder that history is never just a clash between nations, but the lived experiences of countless individuals. The most thought-provoking aspect is Australia's connection to the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. For many Australians, Gallipoli was more than just a battle; it became a crucial symbol in forging their national identity. The "ANZAC" spirit—courage, unity, sacrifice, and perseverance—gradually became a core part of Australia's national narrative. Interestingly, the newly expanded Anzac Hall redevelopment seems to lack this narrative. With its modern aircraft and armored vehicles, it feels more like a traditional military exhibit, missing that distinct touch of Australian history. Still, for me, the most valuable part of the Australian War Memorial isn't the amount of military gear on display, but how it shows a nation confronting its own history. It reveals a piece of the Australian identity—one shaped by immigration, historical memory, a spirit of sacrifice, and the pursuit of peace. As I left, I walked down the memorial avenue once more. The sunlight was shining upon those names. Each name serves as a reminder: The story of a nation is never written in abstract concepts, but built upon the lives of countless individuals. 📍Australian War Memorial, Canberra ⏳ Suggested Time: 2–4 hours 💡 Personal Takeaway: Even if you're not particularly drawn to military history, it's highly worth a visit. It feels much more like a masterclass in Australian history and identity.

Our two-night stay was nothing short of fantastic. Upon arrival, I went to reception to check in, and the staff there was remarkable. He explained the parking situation and directed us on where everything was, including the dining area for breakfast. We stayed in the Atrium room, which was spacious and incredibly comfortable. When we entered our luxurious bathroom, it was modern and large enough to get lost in, featuring two showers and an oversized bath. The amenities like shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and the like were top-notch and had wonderful scents. The bed was one of the best we've ever slept on, quite impressive given our travels to places like New York City and Chicago. So comfortable that I asked the staff for the brand to purchase one for home. The breakfast each morning was also outstanding—definitely worth it. We have every intention of returning, without a doubt.

When you step onto the red soil plateau of Canberra, the capital of Australia, a magnificent structure nestled within the grassy slopes quietly comes into view—this is Australia's New Parliament House. It is not only the political heart of the nation but also a landmark that seamlessly blends architectural artistry, democratic spirit, and natural landscapes. ➡️ The Crown of Canberra, Hidden Among Green Hills The New Parliament House was officially inaugurated in 1988, replacing the old parliamentary building. Designed by Italian-American architect Romaldo Giurgola, the concept of "architecture blending with the earth" was central to its design. This modern structure does not overshadow its surroundings but instead harmonizes with the undulating terrain of Australia, discreetly nestled on Capital Hill. From a distance, the Parliament House appears to merge seamlessly with the grasslands, with only the 81-meter-tall flagpole on the roof standing prominently, symbolizing the steadfastness and openness of Australian democracy. Upon closer inspection, you’ll find that it is not just a venue for political operations but also a refined piece of public art. Every aspect, from materials to proportions and spatial flow, reflects deep contemplation of the nation's history and future. ➡️ A Building Open to All Unlike the heavily guarded power centers in many countries, Australia's Parliament House is open to the public. Visitors can freely explore exhibitions, stroll on the grassy rooftop, and even observe debates in the House of Representatives and the Senate, truly experiencing the spirit of "democracy for the people." Upon entering the foyer, you’ll be immediately captivated by the grand Marble Foyer. The pristine white marble, imported from Italy and paired with local Australian materials, creates an atmosphere that is solemn yet warm. At the center of the hall hangs a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, engaging in dialogue with the surrounding modern artworks, symbolizing the coexistence of tradition and contemporary political culture. ➡️ Must-See Highlights The entire interior of the Parliament House resembles a large exhibition hall, with every space worth exploring. Here are some unmissable highlights: · House of Representatives and Senate Chambers: One green and one red, representing the traditional colors of the British House of Commons and House of Lords. Visitors can watch live debates from the gallery, experiencing the rhythm and atmosphere of parliamentary proceedings. · Great Hall: Features a 20-meter-long tapestry artwork titled "Voices of the Land," created by hundreds of textile artists. It is a significant representation of Australian culture and art. · Parliament House Lawn: You can walk up the grassy slope to the rooftop of the building, offering a panoramic view of Canberra. It’s an excellent spot for photography and picnics. · Indigenous Art Gallery: Through permanent and traveling exhibitions, it tells the story of Australia's Indigenous history and connection to the land, emphasizing the importance of multiculturalism. 🏢 Architecture as a Dialogue Between Thought and History The New Parliament House is more than just a building; it is a manifestation of values. From the portraits of past prime ministers on the walls to the "national map" inlaid with stones from various states on the floor, from sculptures to natural lighting designs, every detail seeks to explore the question of "Who is Australia, where has it come from, and where is it going?" This is a quiet venue for dialogue, offering profound reflections on politics, history, coexistence among communities, and visions for the future. For students and educators, it serves as a living textbook; for travelers and photography enthusiasts, it is an ideal location combining architectural aesthetics with compelling stories. If the Sydney Opera House symbolizes Australia's art and innovation, then Canberra's New Parliament House is a stable and steadfast heart, constantly beating to the rhythm of Australian democracy. ℹ️ Practical Information 📍 Address: Parliament Drive, Canberra ACT 2600 🕰️ Opening Hours: Daily 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Closed on Christmas Day) 💰 Admission: Free (Some guided tours or special exhibitions may require reservations) ⏰ Recommended Visit Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours 🚙 Transportation: You can drive or take a Canberra city bus to the Parliament House stop. Few people fall in love with brutalist architecture at first sight. Some people slowly come to like this style, while many others never do. Some people think this style of architecture brings a sense of fear, coldness, and oppression. In Canberra, some people say, "I always thought these buildings only appeared in World War II movies." What is brutalist architecture? It emphasizes architecture and raw materials, characterized by raw, exposed concrete and bold geometric forms. This architectural style has quietly started a wave in Canberra.
