2026 Pontypridd Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in July)

1. Clydach Vale Countrypark, Tonypandy Stunning country park with waterfalls, mountains trails, lakes & nature. A beautiful spot all year round. Free parking, lakeside cafe & dog friendly. 2. The Billy Wynt, Llantrisant Perfect sunset vantage point. A short but steep walk up from the historic town of Llantrisant. You can also do the Hen Felin Wynt circular for a longer walk. 3. Pistyll-Goleu Waterfall, Llanwanno If you are looking for a quiet woodland walk away from the crowds, Llanwanno is a great choice with a 4 mile circular that takes in the Church, Reservoir & waterfall. 4. Craig Yr Alt, Nantgarw A hill lying just within the borough. Offers fantastic views across Cardiff & Valleys. Variety of ways to the summit including a circular that takes in Castell Coch. 5. Ynysangharad Park and Lido, Pontypridd Always love a wander around Ynysangharad War Memorial park, beautiful in every season with a fantastic playpark & is home to the National Lido of Wales. 6. Cynon Valley Museum, Aberdare This free museum is small but packs a punch with its exhibits on local welsh life & moving stories about the Welsh miners strikes. Aberdare Park is only a short walk away so combine the two. 7. Dare Valley Park, Aberdare A huge country park that has something for everyone. Biking trails, adventure playground, lakes, nature & mountain paths, we love it here. Free parking, cafe & dog friendly. 8. Pen Pych Waterfall, Treherbert One of my favourite Waterfalls in Wales. The walk takes you through gorgeous woodland & is suitable for all ages. Please make sure to take rubbish home, sadly there are issues with rubbish being left in the carpark. 9. Brynna Woods, Pontyclun A beautiful woodland with two circular walks, suitable for all ages & lovely wooden sculptures dotted throughout. A haven for nature and a very tranquil spot. 10. Barry Sidings Country Park, Hopkinstown We come here often as there is plenty to explore. Mountain paths, lakes, woods plus a fantastic cafe, its always a good option. #wales #southwales #Rhonddacynontaf

One of my favourite pubs in South Wales. The perfect spot for a pint after a walk around Ynysangharad Park, a dip in the Lido or Pontypridd Common. This atmosphere at this gastro pub and microbrewery is always welcoming and the interior is cosy and inviting. They have an excellent selection of independent craft beers and alcohol free options and the food has a focus on seasonal produce and local flavours. Highly recommend the Sunday Roast but it’s popular so make sure you book a table. #southwales #Pontypridd #Bunchofgrapes

#CroesoCymru or Welcome to Wales. This is the lovely Pontypridd railway station, just 10 miles NW of Cardiff nestled next to the River Taff. Known for once having the longest island platform in the world when opened in 1907. Now a important transport interchange hub between Cardiff and the valleys.

Lovely park to walk. I like the autumnal vibes here with the trees and foliage changing colours. It's like something out of an oil painting. This park is near the river so you can walk along it or enjoy the nature. It's not the biggest park but easy to casually walk around and soak up the fresh air. You'll likely see lots of dog walkers as it's pet friendly. Lots of benches around to sit and chill out or just enjoy the park. Check out the war memorial statues and monuments too and take a moment to reflect. It's downtown so super easy to get to and it's well connected to the buses and trains. #wales #travel #uk #nature #park
