Kokura Valley
Visiting the Kokura Valley felt like stepping into a magical world of natural beauty. I wandered between towering palm trees and endless green meadows. I saw the famous wax palm tree, one of the most precious palm trees in the sky. I enjoyed walking along the trails overlooking the valley and the mountain views. I climbed a nearby hill and enjoyed the stunning views of the magnificent landscape. I paused to take photos and meditate on the tranquility of the surrounding nature. The Kokura Valley was an enchanting sanctuary that reflected the pristine beauty of nature and offered visitors unforgettable serenity.

The colourful town Finca
City: Salento, Colombia 🇨🇴
Where is it: north west of Bogota the capital, in the north of South America
What’s special ✨: Finca means farm/local village. There are many local fincas in Colombia and this one in Salento is famous for its colourful buildings, its coffee farms and tranquility in the area. Shops close pretty early (it’s not a busy area and hence the quietness). Also if you like plants you can spot a lot here!

FROM BEAN
FROM BEAN TO CUP ☕️.⠀
⠀
Did you know that an average worker in a coffee farm can pick up to 100kg of ripe coffee cherries PER DAY?!⠀
⠀
This is the staggering amount we learned is normally collected by individual pickers (by hand!) during the two picking seasons the Ocasa Coffee Plantation sees every year. We spent an afternoon exploring the sights, sounds and smells of the Ocasa Coffee Plantation to learn all about how our favourite cup o’ Joe is made. From planting the seed, to picking the ripe cherries and sorting the beans, we learned heaps about the process and admire the work that goes into producing coffee beans so much more!⠀

Complete Guide to Hiking in Colombia's Cocora Valley: Avoid the Pitfalls, Save Time and Money!
🚶♂️Want to experience the natural wonders of Colombia without spending too much time and money?
🏰Then Cocora Valley, near the town of Salento, is definitely the place for you! Known for its towering wax palm trees, the valley offers spectacular views and is known as the "Lost Valley of South America."
🌟
The tallest palm trees in the world, reaching up to 60 meters high!
A thrilling experience like walking through Jurassic Park!
🌱Entrance fee: COP 15,000
🌻Tips to avoid pitfalls (important):
🌷Hiking route options:
Short route (2 hours): Excellent scenery, low difficulty, free, highly recommended!
Long route (12 km, 6 hours): Average scenery, lots of gravel roads, streams, slippery, some narrow sections, poor experience, and requires an additional COP 8,000, not recommended!
🥾Hiking direction:
Clockwise is recommended, but many people get it wrong. Be sure to check the direction on Google Maps in advance to avoid going counterclockwise!
The essence of Cocora Valley lies in the short route, which takes less time, has beautiful scenery, and offers great value. The long route is relatively less appealing and not recommended.
🌟Remember, clockwise is the right direction! Have a great time in Cocora Valley!

Fairy tale town Salento
Name of place 🔖: Salento, Colombia 🇨🇴
Access🚗: It’s between capital Bogota (6 hours car) and Medellín (5.5 hours car), but absolutely worth it
What’s special✨: the town is very quiet and the vibe is relaxing, even the air seems to be fresher (and often blended with the aroma of nicely brewed coffee).
The houses are colourful but all of sightly different pattern. It is almost impossible to find identical houses.

Colourful, Cheerful Salento
Name of town: Salento, Colombia 🇨🇴
Famous for ✨
🌈 its low-density, colourful houses, gardens, cafes, decorations and everything. No matter where you go, there must be multiple colours. Even the ATM on the street (photo 3 - it doesn’t open 24 hours daily so when it is closed, it is locked behind colourful bars).
Coffee ☕️: everywhere in Colombia is famous for coffee, but Salento has its own coffee farms that are famous for coffee tours. One can book a day trip there and experience the life of a coffee farmer from planting, picking, peeling, washing, drying to roasting coffee beans! Real fun!

Cartoon Cafe at Salento, Colombia
Name: Brunch Club, Salento
Famous for✨: this recommended brunch place is an international traveller’s gather place - I met so many tourists from different nationalities. Everyone is free to draw or leave a message on the walls of the restaurant. The multi-language mural immediately becomes a cool part of the diner.
The owner is an innocent and cheerful person who always tries to lighten people’s day by making their food cartoonish (like my Mickey pancake in the last photo).

Pretty place breeds tasty coffee
It is the most stunning view I have ever seen although the photos maybe underrepresenting it. The sky is always blue with a lot of sun, that’s why trees are tall and various plants flourish. Horses are happy there and even the air is fresher. Definitely worth going and trying the coffee from one of the world’s biggest coffee exporters!

Uncovering Salento, a Town in Colombia’s Coff
From full-on lessons in producing, growing, roasting and brewing Colombian coffee to night markets filled with stall-upon-stall of local bites, Salento was a charming and picturesque introduction to Colombia’s infamous coffee triangle.
Despite being just a tiny town within the Quindio department, the quality of coffee that can be found here (alongside the beautiful Cocora Valley) is what put this place on the map.
With its rolling green hills, bustling nightlife, beautiful hilltop views and colourful buildings, I couldn’t get enough! Be sure to take the time to explore both during the night and day!

Coffee Everything in Salento
From coffee farms and coffee beans to coffee sweets and coffee sauce - for three days during my trip through Colombia, my life was filled with coffee at every turn. Is there any better way to spend a holiday?
If visiting Salento, you'll also find that coffee is absolutely everywhere - from your drink to your food - and this dish was no exception. Frying up a local Mojarra fish, Acaime douses it in a sweet coffee sauce for added flavour. This wasn't one of my favourite dishes as the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking, but thought it was worth a mention because of the sheer originality and link to Colombia's coffee culture. The dish is accompanied by deep-fried yuca sticks and salad.
What I ate:
Mojarra en Salsa de Cafe
Price: 27,000 COP

A small co
A small coffee town hidden in the mountains - Salento, Colombia
Salento is a leisurely and peaceful mountain town in the Colombian coffee area.
There is only one main street full of handicraft shops. The architecture of Salento is different from other towns, and the frame and window frames are colorful and extremely romantic.
This mountain town is quite a Peugeot. The checkerboard-style streets are full of old-fashioned houses, churches and plazas, and they live in harmony with the surrounding lush forests.
Find a coffee house, have a drink, the coffee here is one of the best in Colombia.
Walk for more than an hour to the coffee farm, the whole process of growing coffee to brewing coffee. There is a coffee tour in the local area. From the cultivation of coffee beans, you can learn about coffee beans baking and grinding.
In addition to using hazelnuts and coffee, the Columbia Mountains use this American Willys Jeep to deliver coffee on the rugged mountain road!
Just in the town, at the party, participate in the jeep willys show. The performers used a variety of difficult forms to manipulate willys, causing warm applause from the scene.
After a Willys jeep ride from Salento to the Kokkola Valley for a mountain hike. Take a hike in the Palm Forest Sanctuary to learn about palm trees and local coffee culture.
Occasionally meet local mountain people riding horses, they will always take the initiative to tell you good days.
Hummer is still a vehicle used by locals. It is usually a scorpion to transport coffee. The heroic mountain people wear cowboy-like sombrero, a style that is not in a hurry, and completes all kinds of trivial things with their own favorite speed, just like the feeling of this emerging South American country.
One side of the water and soil to raise one person, at this time Colombian water and soil raising this generation of coffee people, may soon be creating a new coffee kingdom.
