Akita Airport: A cozy and intimate local airport

Domestic flights are primarily operated by JAL and ANA, connecting to Haneda, Itami, New Chitose, Chubu Centrair International Airport, and Okadama Airport. Tigerair offers direct flights to Taoyuan International Airport on Thursdays and Sundays, making it a key gateway for Taiwanese travelers visiting Akita. The first floor of the domestic terminal houses the JAL and ANA departure counters and arrivals, along with information, car rental counters, and a FamilyMart convenience store. The second floor houses the departures and security areas, along with several souvenir shops, a restaurant, a waiting area, and an airport piano for free performances. The third floor rooftop features an observation deck and the L-1011 Tristar cockpit. While not a simulator, you can sit inside. Part of the observation deck is covered, allowing for comfortable viewing of the departure ceremony even in rainy or snowy weather. Although the airport is small, it is quite welcoming, with some staff speaking Chinese. Upon arrival, Tigerair offers Taiwanese passengers free peach juice and the opportunity to take photos with Akita dogs. Security is relatively strict, but the overall route is straightforward. To and from Akita Station, take the Airport Limousine Bus, which costs 950 yen and takes about 40 minutes.
