Visiting the small alleys of Tainan always brings surprises at every turn! Hidden at the corner of an alley off Xinyi Street, near Jifu Temple, Nie Lou is a two-story brick house that has been renovated. Its pebble-dashed exterior walls and iron flower window frames with wooden doors exude a retro and nostalgic charm. The first floor houses the bar and order area, along with a section selling creative cultural goods. Stepping out onto the balcony and up to the small loft-like dining area, one side is furnished with a lazy-style sofa, while the other side features tatami mats on the floor. The open-style mezzanine allows a view down to the bar area on the first floor, where shadows play with the natural light, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere that is very photogenic. Ordering an iced Americano paired with some nutty snacks and lounging on the tatami mats is truly super chill.
