Reinterpreting Andean vernacular architecture for contemporary living, House in the Andes embraces its site and context to explore new relationships between landscape and built form. Carving access areas through earthy mounds exposes rammed earth walls. The architects create a hollowed and flexible semi-underground space inspired by circulation patterns of the ancestral ‘Chaquiñán’. Interlocking adobe bricks encrust the façade, generating a play of textures, shades and shadows when light hits at different times throughout the day. The bricks were made locally using the same earth excavated on-site and pay homage to the rich diversity of geological rock formations in Ecuador. #themepark#zoo#nationalpark#lakes
