Sai Kung East Country Park covers a long coastline. In the past, most of the villagers living here made a living by fishing, and agriculture was not well developed. The lime production industry was once prosperous because it could use local materials along the coast and used coral skeletons as raw materials. The ancient village of Sheung Yao was the main production base of this industry. Shangyao Village has been converted into the Shangyao Folk Culture Museum. The existing villages have a large population of residents, except for Beitan'ao and Gaoliuwan Village, while the rest of the villages only have a few households left, some of which provide catering and other services to tourists visiting on holidays.
