🌺Hong Kong Victoria Park Flower Show: Kaleidoscope of the Far East

Overall, this exhibition is like a cheap version of Monet, a plastic version of the Hobbit, the scene of the crumbling building of the late Qing Dynasty, and the imagination and reconstruction of my happy hometown Beijing. Taking into account Hong Kong's unique cultural background, this exhibition is actually a Western fantasy of the Far East, and it is a bit cheap because of cost control. This is not so bad, after all, thanks to this exhibition, I also got to see some messy parts of my hometown. There was even a bird cage placed in the magnolia, for fear that I would not be able to feel the homesickness of carrying a bird in a cage. The new Chinese style understood by Hong Kong and the new Chinese style understood by the mainland are two completely different things - the mainland's fantasy of the Song and Ming dynasties is minimalist and light, with etiquette and law as the highest priority, but it has nothing to do with the aesthetic that should be achieved after resources are concentrated under the feudal system. Hong Kong is obsessed with the late Qing Dynasty that was recreated in the 1980s and 1990s, which was decadent and gaudy, with a hint of absurdity in the plasticity. I don’t know whether it is because this is a very deep impression of the Far East in Westerners, or because this is the end of the economic boom under the feudal system that relied on concentrated resources to shape aesthetics. But why think so much? An adult ticket is only HK$14, you won’t lose out or get cheated. So what if the space is cramped and there is no doorway with a different view at every step? So what if the Nine-Arch Bridge is made of cardboard? This is Hong Kong, the end of the gaudy and bizarre Far East, and this kind of earthy plastic is the right thing to do.
