Kadoorie Farm Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Gardens Butterfly Watching Tour

We all have to go to work and school on weekdays, so we like to take our children outdoors to get close to nature🌳, breathe fresh air and get to know the natural ecology. This time we went to the butterfly 🦋 guided tour organized by Cadbury Farm and Botanical Garden. It was not only fun but also very educational! Located on the northern slope of Mount Tai Mo Shan, the highest mountain range in Hong Kong, Cadbury Farm is the largest nature reserve in Hong Kong, covering an area of about 148 hectares, larger than Ocean Park (92 hectares) and the Chinese University Building (137 hectares)! The Cadbury Farm also adopted injured and rehabilitated animals, some of whom had been illegally kept as pets and eventually abandoned. Approximately 250 species of butterflies have been recorded in Hong Kong, and 201 species have been recorded at Kadoorie Farm alone, accounting for 80% of butterfly species! The tour was led by Philip, Senior Nature Conservation Director, who started our butterfly watching tour with a brief introduction to the background of Cadbury Farm! She took us to different fruit trees and greenhouses to capture different sides of butterflies. We saw a lot of usually very rare butterfly varieties like Birdwing, which were really beautiful and big, and had the opportunity to see butterfly eggs and larvae. During Philip will also explain to us in detail, both children and adults are definitely long knowledge! He also brings a tablet to open the gallery so you can view it up close. Later, he caught a butterfly and introduced it to us, and the kids were excited to see it! In addition to butterflies, we were able to see some animals that we rarely see in the park, such as eagles, owls, and leopard cats. It was an eye-opener! After the visit, there is also a workshop to make handmade wooden keychains. The wood🪵 used is all recycled wood in the garden. Children can use their creativity to draw different patterns on it to create a unique keychain. This butterfly viewing activity is really fun and meaningful. It allows children to stay away from the hustle and bustle, explore nature, broaden their horizons, get to know Hong Kong's flora and fauna, not have to face electronic products all the time, and keep fit 💪! It can also teach them how they can do their part in preserving the environment. In fact, just making a little change in our daily lives has been of great help to environmental preservation! Just like the farm insists on “plastic-free”, supporting organic food, and so on. The farm also has organic eggs 🥚 for sale, which are fragrant and delicious. We bought a box to take home! #LocalTour ⭐️ On August 24 and 31, Cadbury Farm will hold another butterfly tour 👉 Event details can be found on the web page This activity has really benefited us a lot, in addition to increasing their knowledge of ecology, but also able to instill the importance of preserving the environment in children, is definitely a very good parent-child activity, highly recommended to everyone!
