Mai Po Nature Reserve is known as Hong Kong's "Bird Paradise" and has been managed by the World Wildlife Fund-Hong Kong (WWF-Hong Kong) since 1983. The reserve has a rich variety of wetland habitats, including kiwis, mangroves, intertidal mudflats and reed beds, which provide shelter for wildlife and are an important stopover for migrating waterbirds. Every winter, about 60,000 water birds come to Deep Bay to spend the winter, creating a spectacular scene. In 1995, the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay Wetlands were designated as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. Visitors can not only experience nature firsthand, but also enhance their understanding of Hong Kong's natural environment and sustainable development.
