The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens is the oldest park in Hong Kong. It was fully completed and opened to the public in 1871. The park was originally the site of the Governor's Office. Since the Governor was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces stationed in Hong Kong, known as "Bingtou", the park is also commonly known as "Bingtou Garden". In its early days, the park focused on collecting and studying local plants, hence the name "Botanical Park". Since 1876, the park has been raising birds and mammals. During the Japanese occupation, a large number of plants in the park were destroyed. After the war, the park began to be rebuilt and was officially taken over by the former Municipal Council in 1953. Since then, the number of animals and birds in the park has increased day by day. In 1975, the park was officially renamed "Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens". Since January 2000, the park has been taken over by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. #Local Tour The park covers an area of ​​5.6 hectares and is a rare large-scale "forest in the city" in Hong Kong. It not only carries the precious collective memories of Hong Kong people, but also witnesses the changes of the times. It combines humanities and natural history. It can be said to be a pure land in the bustling city that combines poetry, greenery and historical significance. The park is divided into east and west parts, which are connected by a pedestrian tunnel. The eastern part of the park is called the "Old Park", which has a children's playground, aviary, greenhouse and fountain platform garden; the western part is called the "New Park", which is mainly home to mammals and reptiles. The park can meet the physical and mental needs of adults and children, and is truly a great place for leisure.​
