Tateyama Kurobe Snow Wall: A Spectacular Natural Wonder

🌟 On the first day of Golden Week, I went to Tateyama Kurobe and witnessed the famous snow wall with my own eyes. The height at that time reached 13 meters, which was really amazing. 🚞 Since I didn't book in advance, I was unable to buy a ticket to go up the mountain from Toyama, so I booked a ticket from Ogizawa at 7am on the official website. The ticket type is a round-trip ticket from Ogizawa to Murodo (the snow wall is located in Murodo), and you can choose other types of tickets according to your needs. 🚍 Starting from Ogizawa, first take the electric bus for about 15 minutes to Kurobe Dam Station, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Kurobe. The reservoir gates are opened in summer but not in other seasons, but the scenery of snow-capped mountains and the lake is still breathtaking. 🚶‍♂️ It takes about 15 minutes on foot from Kurobe Dam Station to Kurobe Lake Station. From here you can take the mountain train and arrive at Kurobedaira Station in about 7 minutes (since you have purchased a round-trip ticket, you don’t need to buy another ticket). 🚡 From Kurobe-daira, take the Tateyama Cable Car for about 10 minutes to reach Daikanbo Peak, where you can enjoy the full view of Lake Kurobe from the observation deck. 🚌 Transfer to the bus at Daikanbo and you will arrive at Murodo Station in about 15-20 minutes. Come out of Murodo Station and follow the signs to the canyon to admire the snow walls. There are two ways to the highest point, one is the highway and the other is a hiking trail on the snow. It is recommended to take the highway on the way there and take the snow road on the way back (or vice versa), so that you don't have to go back and experience different routes. 🏔️ On the other side of Murodo Station is the Murodo Plateau Exit, where you can take a walk around the snow, which takes about an hour. If you are not a professional climber, it is recommended that you do not walk up or down the slope, just go around along the flat road. ⚠️ Pay attention to the time of the shuttle bus down the mountain. 🌡️ Regarding the temperature, the temperature in Murodo is about 10 degrees on a sunny day. You don’t need to wear a down jacket because it is really hot under the snow.
