Explore Japan's most expensive mountain: Tateyama Kurobe!

🏔️Tateyama Kurobe, known as the "Japanese Alps", is located in central Japan and is closed for half a year every year. In spring, the locals shovel snow and clear the mountains, forming the famous "Snow Valley", or snow wall. Many people may have seen photos online and mistakenly thought they were from Hokkaido or other places. In fact, this is Tateyama, one of the most expensive tourist attractions in Japan. Tateyama is accessible from Toyama City and Nagano City. Today we will only introduce how to get there from Toyama City. Toyama is the base camp for traveling in Hokuriku. It is a leisurely little town and it is worth staying there for a few more days. ✅Prepare in advance: 🥢It takes a whole day to get to Tateyama, and there are few options for eating on the mountain. It is recommended to bring your favorite food and have a picnic in the mountains, the environment is good and comfortable. 🧣Tateyama is about 2,450 meters above sea level, and the temperature difference is large, so you can bring a long-sleeved jacket in summer. If you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter. There are Montbell and North Face stores on the top of the mountain and they can restock at any time. 🤳It is best to check the LIVECAMER in advance or search on YouTube before going up the mountain. If the weather is bad and it is raining, it is not recommended to go. Clouds and fog are normal, and sunny days are lucky. 🚦Specific transportation: 🚞Go to Toyama Railway Station to buy tickets. Note, it is not JR Toyama Station. Dentetsu Toyama Station is right next to the JR station on the left. 🎫There is a window at the railway station that sells transportation tickets to and from Tateyama Murodo (all transportation included). The adult ticket is close to 10,000 yen, which is really expensive. No reservation is required during off-peak season. 🚟Itinerary: Take the train to Tateyama Station (1 hour), then transfer to the Tateyama Cable Car to Bijodaira (7 minutes), then transfer to the Tateyama Plateau Bus (sit on the left side of the bus) to Murodo (the top of the mountain) (1 hour). 🚌Transfers may seem complicated, but they are actually very smooth and there is nothing to worry about. The plateau bus is similar to the tourist buses in domestic scenic spots. It will stop at designated times to allow everyone to tour and take photos, which is very humane. 👣How to visit: ⛰️After arriving at Murodo, you can start shopping. Murodo is similar to a mountaineering base camp in China, except that this area is very large. The official provides four different hiking routes: ABCD. Each route is marked with a time, and everyone can hike as needed. We chose the D route with the largest loop, which takes 2 hours for one loop, and about 2.5-3 hours including breaks and meals. 🚸These routes basically do not require climbing, there are only some not too high or too long stairs, which can be easily handled by the elderly and children. Feel free to find a place that you feel comfortable to rest and have lunch. It is recommended to choose the lakeside of Yukuri Lake. Finally, return to Toyama City along the original route.
