Ski Resort an hour from Tokyo
#skiadventure
About an hour from Tokyo using the Hokuriku Shinkansen, Karuizawa is one of Japan’s oldest and most famous mountain resort towns among the people in Japan. The ski resort use snow machines to guarantee snow no matter the weather. The use of the snow machines allows the resort to open from early November to April
If you going to Tokyo can consider going to Karuizawa for a break
Summer Retreat - Karuizawa
When it comes to must-visit attractions in Karuizawa, the top recommendation is definitely the Yachiho Lake, also known as the Swan Lake. The lake's surface is so clean that the surrounding landscape is clearly reflected on it, creating an incredibly beautiful scene. The editor personally recommends visiting during the autumn foliage season, when the red maple leaves next to the lake form a stunning view. However, the lush greenery in summer is also very healing. If you visit in winter, be careful walking in the snow-covered areas.
Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is located to the south of Karuizawa Station, divided into east and west sections, with more than 200 stores including luxury brands, clothing, groceries, home decor, sports brands, outdoor gear, and more. There's also a food court with a really wide selection, and sometimes there are incredible discounts, making it a great place to shop! It's recommended to go to the service center first to get discount coupons and a map, so you can plan which brands you want to visit and not get lost.
The attractions recommended earlier are closer to Karuizawa Station, while Elm Street Town is near Naka-Karuizawa Station and requires a bus ride to reach. Although it's a bit farther away, I think it's well worth a visit. The shops are built in a charming log cabin style, which is super cute and makes for beautiful photos. The stores are very distinctive, with famous coffee shop Maruyama Coffee and SAWAMURA bakery having branches here.
The Stone Church is a unique stone-built church in the world, with a special design made of irregularly arranged stones. It looks different from the typical church image in our minds, and the use of stones in its design is quite interesting. It symbolizes the hope that a loving couple will smooth out their differences and live a fulfilling life together after marriage. The Stone Church is open for visitors, but photography is not allowed inside. The interior design of the church is very special, and the view from the skylight is beautiful, exuding an elegant and astonishing beauty. It's no wonder that many people in Japan wish to get married here.
Karuizawa
#thingstodo This ski slope is another convenient location , 10 min walk from the Shinkansen station. The slopes are short and mainly for beginners though. It’s not as well organized as Gala Yuzawa. Definitely book your ticket and rentals online in advance because the lines are really long. Also, what I didn’t know is you get both your rental and lift tickets by scanning a QR code. Then you take your printed receipt to the rental shop. Be warned there are very few lockers and otherwise there is a luggage check where you can store your bags while you ski for 1000 yen. This is in the Snow House.
Also there are many ski schools here so expect tons of tiny kids and instructors. Lift lines will be long, no getting around that.
All in all it’s fine for a light half day of skiing. Nothing special but still convenient.

There are small wooden houses scattered in a large forest, each with its own independent hot spring and good privacy. Shopping nearby is also convenient!
Karuizawa is a great place for a leisurely vacation. Drink some coffee, eat some desserts 🍮, visit the Stone Church and the Highland Church, feel the churches, trees, grass and shadows under the sunshine, and feel refreshed! Being here can calm down your restless heart, discover the beauty that you haven't noticed before, think about things that you didn't have time to think about in the past, settle some things, discard some burdens, and a short vacation allows you to travel light and start again!

Karuizawa Princehotel Snow Resort
#hotelreview
One of the most conveniently located ski resorts (from the POV of someone living in Tokyo, that is). You leave in the morning, get a good 7 hours of skiing (incl lunch break) and then be back at home in the early evening. Very hard to beat! And very reasonable price. If you stay over night, the choices are quite wide, but prices are quite steep, especially if you want to stay close to the slopes.overall awesome
